Expand bed size?

Hi

 

 I noticed two things today. First I noticed that the actual buildplate on my S5 is quite a bit larger than the indicated bed size in Cura. Then I noticed the maximum practical bed size that Cura will allow for an item to be sliceable, is 326 x236 mm, vs the specified area 330 x 240 mm.

Did anyone try to expand the bed size in cura and use the extra space at the perimeter? If so, how much and how did it work out?

The profiles for UltiMaker printers in Cura should be perfect (since they're added by UltiMaker themselves).

 

If you think the profile might be wrong for your printer, make sure you're running the latest version of Cura (either 5.6 or 5.7 beta) and add a copy through the add printer wizard.

There are settings that can make the area small because Cura can decide it needs to reserve the space for something.

"Avoid Printed Parts when Traveling" is one.  If you have "Prime Tower" enabled or are using a Skirt/Brim/Raft or if you have "Generate Support" enabled then the area can be smaller.  For an UltiMaker it appears that just changing the material can effect the Max Model Size.

Generally, if there is a gray border around the bed it is caused by either a setting, or (for some  printers) a disallowed area.  With the settings just right you can slice a model that is 0.2mm less than the build plate X Y.

Also please note the S5 build plate is considerably larger than the max travel range of the print cores. 
This is by design, the range allowed is within advertised specs.
