14.07 firmware update unables serial communication

Hi,

just finished a print with my UM1 using Cura 14.06 Noproblemo.

Then got a message update 14.07 is there, so I upgraded.

After installation I checkmarked the extruder upgrade (as always) an also checkmarked the homebuilt heated bed (becuase i´m working on adding one, which is 80% finished).

Now Cura does not want serial communication with my UM1.

Went back to 14.06, but the old version also could not get connection.

I wanted to downgrade to see if an older version of the firmware would still work, but since no version of cure seems to be able to communicate with my UM1 anymore I dont know how to fix this.

First of all, uncheck the "homebuilt" heated bed because if you do that and then install cura it will install one that expects a specific, unusual heated bed design - the one that UM is about to sell (any day now?).

However this is probably unrelated to your issue.

I would just try a few more times. Also as a last resort, remove the arduino from the PCB and program it directly.

Also consider using the arduino ide to install the hex file. Actually I'm not sure if you can do that without compiling it also which is a bit of work so maybe use pronterface to update the arduino?

Thanks for both idea's. Using Sketch to program the ARDUINO directly is ofcourse last resort, I was hoping to avoid that.

I will try to upload firmware without the heated bed option, just to get things working again, but if I want to make any progress on installing my homebuilt heated bed I DO want to enable this option in the near future. Upcoming weeks were my dedicated days to get my heated bed working before summer vacation.

    Monday will bring more results

I've already reported this in the 14.06 beta.

If you have checked the self built heated bed option and upgraded the firmware, the printer is a temporarily bricked.

You need to remove the Arduino and flash with the Arduiino IDE

Then NEVER upgrade with Cura's update firmware option.

Not quite sure why Cura isn't updated to provide a message that previous versions did when you checked self built bed and you tried to upgrade the firmware in Cura.

I guess UM likes frustrating their customers or the support people need more calls to handle...

For a version of Marlin that works with your heated bed you can probalby use this wonderful service:
