  1. After 3 prints I still improving my XT profile... keep in mind that I'm using 0.4 nozzle size, bed 70°C and 0.15 resolution.

    First test:

I'm printing multiple objects, so I tryed 40mm/s and 255°C to avoid underextrusion but, for this thin 3d object, cause me a lot of strings in my first try and cause me a lot of pos-processing work. Fan 50% at layer 110 and Wipe 1,00.

    Second test:

So I reduced temperature to 252°C with 45mm/s speed, no fan and wipe 0,80 - just an experience to check if the letters comes printed better. Less strings here.

    Third test:

Temp 250°C with 50mm/s, wipe 0,50, no fan. Here (and above) I note some burned dots and also some warping on curved top layers... on travel moviment sometimes the nozzle hit on layers.

    Next:

Temp 250°C with 50mm/s, wipe 0,50 and no fan. Created a process 2 to for buildings and increased speed to 52,5mm/s and add a Retraction Vertical Lift of 0,30mm to avoid nozzle to hit warped top layers and maybe stop with burned dots, don't know if it's gonna work. I will keep them informed. Created a third process for the top of buildings with 0.1 resolution, 45mm/s and 248°C and 30% fan. Theeeere we go! :)

Note: first layers still getting low flow in some areas. I relocated those objects to avoid the front right part of the bed but this issue continuos... it don't ruined my print but it leaves an ugly first layer... I also note some old prints with XT with those same issues. What is the problem here? Friction inside bowder tube or feeder problem? I still with the standart UM2 feeder, printed iRobert+Geek feeder don't assembly yet... this is going to fix the problem?

    Hi fergazz

These are my settings that I used the other day with good results. Bear in mind I have UM2+ and had my extrusion multiplier set to 0.95 instead of 1.

Also I was only printing at 30mm/s. You could see if these settings work for you and then add more temperature and speed as desired.

  2.

The upgrade to um2+ greatly alleviates this problem.

I have already upgraded my printer with the |Robert| feeder, an Olsson block hot end with a 30 watt cartridge, and 3dsolex high temp PTFE coupler. Is the included stepper motor different to the UM2 motor?

My setup should be able to print at much higher speeds. Even at 35mm/s effective extrusion rate (20mm/min extrusion -> 35mm/s @ 0.4 width, 0.15 layer height) there is under extrusion in the 100mm command.

    The UM2+ feeder is geared.

  3. I think this is typical characteristics of the the um2 feeder and umo even though there is no noticeable slippage or skipped steps. The upgrade to um2+ greatly alleviates this problem. Other things to do is make sure you have a clean nozzle, have an easy unrestricted entry into the extruder, have the tension adjusted right on the extruder, check the ptfe coupler in your hot end and then always print at a moderate speed like 25 to 35mm/sec.

  4.

It looks like you need to print closer to the build plate.  Then experiment with a thinner than usual first layer plus increase the extrusion rate for the first layer. Also make sure your text is deep enough. I have had reasonable results recently with 0.1 mm first layer, 110 % flow for first layer (but 100 % may go ok too),  0.7 mm deep text using glue stick and printing with abs through a 0.25 mm nozzle. Hope this helps. Good luck.

    Thanks Owen!

Printing closer to the plate seems logic, but how to set that up? I know how to calibrate the plate by a piece of paper. But how to measure, if I want to get even closer?

I will definately try to increase the flow, that seems very promissing. I didn't know, I can do that for just one layer!? As for the nozzle, I only have the standard (0.4 mm), using PLA at the moment.

    Regards.

    Uwe

To get closer to the the build plate, after you do the standard level tighten each of the 3 bed levelling screws by the same amount. 1/8 to 1/4 of a turn anti clockwise when looking from the top.

Sorry I see Cura doesn't allow to increase flow on the first layer (I used Simplify3D). You could add a line of gcode at the start of the first layer to increase flow but I would try without that first. Getting closer to the build plate should have the same effect.

0.4mm nozzle should be OK. You seem to have fairly big text.

  6. Hi,

Firstly preview your print in Cura to see if Cura is not printing the whole file. Next get the latest version of Cura and preview in that. If Cura is not showing the full print then upload your file and Cura settings here. If Cura is showing the full print then maybe you are having an extrusion problem. Let us know how you go and maybe upload a pic of your print here first.

I just refreshed my list of unread topics. The link to this topic said "1 unread" but the URL it pointed to was

which made it jump to the top of page 51 instead of the last post of page 52

When it's working the link would be

Hi Owen, is it possible that you can create a short screencase of this and send like a dropbox link in a DM to me? (Or whatever you prefer?) That might help our developers too.

    Thank you for your help!

Look at my post, just above yours (https://ultimaker.com/en/community/11734-general-forum-feedback?page=52#reply-155829) and you can see the behavior described ;)

    Yeah, I think you're right.

  10.

I got an alert on this thread and it takes me to the top of the page, not the most recent post as well.

This, all the time. Still not working all the time. Why?

Could both @Lepaul and @titus tell me what browser and operating system you use? Do you have multiple tabs open, so a read-command can be triggered without using the notification under the bell?

    Thanks!

Probably related to this. When showing a list of unread posts(just refreshed), clicking on unread posts link takes me to last page top post. Scrolling down to the end doesn't show the black bar indicating the start of the unread posts. This had been working for several weeks until a few days ago.

  11. Hi

You could have more clearance over the total length like 0.5mm less for the width say .2mm and .1mm over the thickness.

Maybe ABS, XT or NGen as they have more flexibility than PLA. Nylon could be good but I'm not sure how easy it is to print.

For thickness maybe go a multiple of your nozzle width. So for a 0.4mm nozzle try 1.6mm for sides top and bottom.

Good luck and show us the final print.:)

  12. I still have badly leaning test prints (Y axis) after replacing the pulley with a 2-set-screw model.  Asides repeating the process of check the pulley and tightening the belt (already tight) again...where next to look?

    [/quote

Have you tried swapping the stepper board with the X one to see if that moves the problem to the X axis?

  13. If you have been thinking of it and I have been thinking of it, I bet a bunch of others have too.  Sounds like an idea that's ripe for action!  Any Cura programmers around?

    Les

    Les make it happen!

I think cura does support inside a cavity. You just have to tell it to do support everywhere not just from build plate.
