I understand keeping the tower the same height, but when it switches for the next color change on the 1st layer it never goes to the prime tower, it just switches and prints the mixed color in the model.

    ??????

you are only using one nozzle? How are you getting a 'mixed' colour on the model?

Because it never purges the previous color it just retracts the previous color and runs in the 2nd color and starts printing instead of going to the priming tower, so you have the purge or contaminated color in the model. After that all other extruder swaps it does correctly.

    Same here.

I have a Creality CR-X. Dual extrusion with one nozzle. Thought I'd give the beta a go as it came with a profile for my printer. Results so far:

    • It still gets the prime tower print order wrong. It'll print layer 1 with T0 then print layer 1 for the tower also with T0. However it should print layer 1 for the tower with T1. Instead it simply retracts T0, feeds in T1 and continues with layer 1 causing massive colour contamination.
    • On tool change it rapids to the tower position, pauses for 10 seconds, rapids back to the print, rapids back to the tower, prints two perimeters of the tower and then rapids back to the print. (I might be able to solve this by entering a minimum extrusion volume for the tower.)
    • If I check Z-Hop I get a 10 second pause at every z lift and at the beginning and end of every rapid move. I cannot find a way of disabling this pause.

Already the 4.1 beta looks more promising than 4.0 but until these issues are remedied its still not usable.

As you may know, we don't create or maintain the profiles for the 3rd party printers. People from the community does that. In this specific case, it seems that something can be wrong with the profiles of the Creality CR-X. If you create a ticket in our GitHub (https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/issues), it will make your case more visible and people from the community can help.

Other good idea is to share a project file (File->Save), so we can see if the problem is with this printer's definition or a problem in the core of Cura or CuraEngine.

4.0 and 4.1 both do not produce the checked off 'prime blob' for extruder 2 on the S5. Once checked, it will print the Extruder 1 blob, but not the Extruder 2 blob.

This has been checked on the latest firmware, so I am not sure what the disconnect is....Cuira or firmware.

And, while on the subject of prime blobs, Please, please, please make this consistent for all printers. In my instance, it is on by default for the UM3E and off for the S5.

    Consistency would be nice.

Now that option is not even available for the CR-X. I had to install the S5 just to find it thinking it may have something to do with my problem.

I have also tried to set up the CR-X as custom and still have the same problem so that eliminates the printer definition. Here is the file where the 1st color switch never goes to the prime tower to purge the previous color. But from then on they work correctly.

Add a project file with no purge to the prime tower on 1st color switch.

After running the same file that I uploaded that doesn't work correctly I thought I would try it with the Ultimaker S5 and guess what it does the exact same thing (does not move to the prime tower and purge the old color on the first exchange, just changes color right in the middle of the print). Of course, since it has 2 different nozzles the contamination (or in the S5's case blob) isn't as noticeable but it's there. Just run the Cura simulation and you will see it never goes to the prime tower. Make sure you turn off brim or skirt. Cura 3.4.1 is the last version that does not have this behavior.

      • UltiMaker Cura 5.3 stable released
In this stable release, Cura 5.3 achieves yet another huge leap forward in 3D printing thanks to material interlocking! As well as introducing an expanded recommended print settings menu and lots of print quality improvements. Not to mention, a whole bunch of new printer profiles for non-UltiMaker printers!

      • Here it is. The new UltiMaker S7
The UltiMaker S7 is built on the success of the UltiMaker S5 and its design decisions were heavily based on feedback from customers.

        So what’s new?
The obvious change is the S7’s height. It now includes an integrated Air Manager. This filters the exhaust air of every print and also improves build temperature stability. To further enclose the build chamber the S7 only has one magnetically latched door.

The build stack has also been completely redesigned. A PEI-coated flexible steel build plate makes a big difference to productivity. Not only do you not need tools to pop a printed part off. But we also don’t recommend using or adhesion structures for UltiMaker materials (except PC, because...it’s PC). Along with that, 4 pins and 25 magnets make it easy to replace the flex plate perfectly – even with one hand.

The re-engineered print head has an inductive sensor which reduces noise when probing the build plate. This effectively makes it much harder to not achieve a perfect first layer, improving overall print success. We also reversed the front fan direction (fewer plastic hairs, less maintenance), made the print core door magnets stronger, and add a sensor that helps avoid flooding.

The UltiMaker S7 also includes quality of life improvements:
Reliable bed tilt compensation (no more thumbscrews) 2.4 and 5 GHz Wi-Fi A 1080p camera (mounted higher for a better view) Compatibility with 280+ Marketplace materials Compatibility with S5 project files (no reslicing needed) And a whole lot more
Curious to see the S7 in action?
We’re hosting a free tech demo on February 7.
It will be live and you can ask any questions to our CTO, Miguel Calvo.

      • UltiMaker Cura Alpha 🎄 Tree Support Spotlight 🎄
Are you a fan of tree support, but dislike the removal process and the amount of filament it uses? Then we would like to invite you to try this special release of UltiMaker Cura. Brought to you by our special community contributor @thomasrahm

We generated a special version of Cura 5.2 called 5.3.0 Alpha + Xmas. The only changes we introduced compared to UltiMaker Cura 5.2.1 are those which are needed for the new supports. So keep in mind, this is not a sneak peek for Cura 5.3 (there are some really cool new features coming up) but a spotlight release highlighting this new version of tree supports.
