My problem is that I cannot change the "retraction minimum travel" setting. As of now, my printer operates with no retraction at all. The message next to the setting reads,

"this setting has been hidden by the active machine and will not be visible".

I've tried changing machine settings, uninstalling and reinstalling, I tried asking ultimaker directly.. can anyone help?!

That is weird because mine does show this setting: (ultimaker S5)

    image.thumb.png.f20f7d24bdf1ccf1e80522ea897333c7.png

Do you have the printer connected directly to Cura? (because of the 'active printer' bit)

Have you tried changing the printer in cura(this may also change the active printer) just guessing 😉

When I activated this setting it was already at its lowest (0.7mm) so you can't change it to a lower value but this may be different on your machine.

No, I transfer all g codes to a flash drive (cable isnt long enough to connect to where I have the 3d printer stationed).

Yes, I've tries several of the ultimaker defaults and even the custom  FFF printer. I even uninstalled, and reinstalled using the ultimaker s5 as the printer.

Apparently this is a bug. I hope this will get updated soon

Hi,  So at the link quoted above,  issue 6513 was tagged as Completed  Dec 24 2019, and the bug fix was suppposed to be in the next revision of the software.  That should be 4.4.1, which is the version that I am using,  but my "minimum retraction distance" setting is STILL  "hidden by the active machine"   and I end up having to disable retractions alltogether to prevent it from retracting ALL the time!

Am I missing somthing?  is there something I still need to update in order to not have this setting "hidden by the active machine"?

Using Cura 4.4.1 on a Creality ENDER 3

    Thanks,

    Ben

Hi both - it is now April 2020 and I currently have this issue despite it being "fixed".

Just got an Ender 3 Pro a few weeks ago and right from the get-go, Cura has been showing this for many of my settings causing them to not display in my settings list even if they are checked. I tried re-adding printer profile, etc. Printer is not connected to PC, I just use SD card.

    Anyone have any new solution?

    Hi @Just4747,

I had this issue, but when I downloaded CURA 4.5.0 a month or so ago, the issues disappeared! I can now access ALL settings. None are hidden.  I am Using a Creality Ender 3.    Have you updated CURA to 4.5.0?

Better yet, why not try 4.6 beta and let us know if the issue persists

    https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/releases/tag/4.6-beta

If it does, please save out a project file (File > Save...) and attach here so I can test.

Hi both, following up on this. I checked and was already using the latest Cura 4.5. I installed the beta 4.6 and I have the exact same issue - I can't add several settings to the list, even though they are checked. When I try filtering on one of the enabled/hidden settings in the main Prepare screen, the grouping headers that they would appear under do show up (for example, "Build Plate Adhesion" for the "Enable Prime Blob" setting), but not the setting itself.

Clearly, the app knows I am trying to bring up that setting but it won't display it. I'd say at least half or so of the overall settings have the "i" icon and the "This setting has been hidden..." message. Though I see two different messages now depending on the item:

-"This setting has been hidden by the active machine and will not be visible" (my main concern)

-"This setting has been hidden by the values of {some other setting group}. Change the values of those settings to make this setting visible"

Any ideas? I have an Ender 3 Pro but choose the Ender 3 profile in Cura - that's correct right?

I've attached a saved project file from Cura 4.6. It's just an STL I imported from Thingiverse. I exported it with basically no changes done to the model (let me know if this is good enough).

    Thanks!

I have the same issue, I enabled visablity to all and can't see temp settings, or disable prime blob. Any suggestions?

If you can't see temp settings, your printer is likely using UltiGcode. When using UltiGcode, temperature settings are set on the printer, not in Cura. You can change the gcode flavor to Marlin in the Machine Settings for your printer, and gain full access of temperatures in Cura.

The "Enable prime blob" setting has been disabled for all printers.

Well what do I do about the nozzle diving into the prime blob just before it goes to print the model and drags it along screwing up my first layer?

I am also having a similar issue. I can't enable or change retraction settings at all, I get the "This setting has been hidden by the active machine" message. I have a Creality Ender 3 Pro and all the prints generated with Simplify3D(IE: The gcode that comes from the factory) seems to print with exception quality. I have sliced many other models with cura and they simply look like garbage. Even with other profiles all of them have tremendous problems with stringing and blobs. This led me to look at retraction settings and realizing that retraction settings are probably disabled. This is confirmed by watching the prints with severe stringing and noticing that the extruder never really retracts. At least not near the 10mm other gcode is doing. I am using the latest Cura (4.6.1) and I am having tremendous issues with printing using cura vs other slicers. Any help would be appriciated in this matter. I love Cura but this is kind of a deal breaker for me. (FYI I am not hooked up over USB, I simply load my gcode on the included SD Card. )
