End stops not responding on UM1 - solved

I just finished building my ultimaker. When I get to the part in the wizard where it asks to verify the limit switch operation I get nothing from any switch. Do I have bad switches?

Have you tried pressing other switches than the one asked for? You may have wired them backwards.

Yeah, I pressed all of them and nothing. Could it be software? I installed the latest firmware

I really doubt it. I would put the UM on it's side and uncover the bottom board. Disconnect one of the switch cables and hook up to a multimeter in ohms mode. Push the switch and verify the resistance goes to < 10 ohms when the switch is closed and infinite when switch open.

Probably the wire is bad at either the connector or right at the switch.

You actually only need 3 switches - the left one for X, the front one for Y and the top one for Z. Marlin comes with "software endstops" for the other ends of your axes. The UM2 only has 3 limit switches.

If you don't find any connective problems: I had a similar issue when I once ran the Cura installation test wizard on my UM1. None of the end switches responded After restart of - if I remember correctly - both PC with Cura and Ultimaker it worked as it should have.

Thanks or the responses. I actually got it to print just fine without having to go through the wizard. Prints look great. The switches work fine, it homes perfectly ever time. I still don't know why the switches wouldn't work with he wizard. But fir now I'm good. Thanks again for all the responses. It's good to know I'm not in this all alone.

Hi Brainmaker!

I have the same Problem/Effect. The Cura First Run Wizard doesn't work. The first Test of the Limit switch failed. Cura doesn't discover the pushed switch. Not this one or another. And the switch is correctly connected and works fine, tested with an multimeter. I think, this is an Bug in Cura.

I say too: It's good to know I'm not in this all alone.

I had a similar problem.

I ran the wizard and the limit switches worked fine. Then I had to make a few adjustments, ran the wizard again and suddenly no answers from the limit switch! And I didnt touch anything around them, connections and everything are okay. As someone suggested, there might be a little bug there...

As I stated yesterday my limit switches were working then wouldnt respond in the wizard, I turned everything down (computer and printer) for the night, and this morning everything works fine again!
