How do I get the bottom of the glass plate to be 14mm away from the base plate?

In the bed leveling guide by ultimaker it says that "There should always be a distance of 14 mm between the bottom of the heated bed and base plate to prevent errors during active leveling."  How do I get it down to 14mm if i did manual leveling before?

What guide, for what printer model? Could you post a link? (Most of us providing help here are not Ultimaker employees, and we don't know all guides by heart).

 

I think the 14 mm is approximate (though I agree it is a weirdly specific number, which is why I would like to see/read the context so I may be able to explain).

Hi,

I assume it's an UM3. If so, you've two possibilities:

1. just measuring the distance between the top of the platform and the bottom of the heat bed with a ruler or similar,
2. using one of these: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/um3-buildplate-distance-tool

If it's not an UM3, method 2 doesn't work because of the different shape of the platform.

Oh, and as addendum after reading the question properly:

the "14mm-procedure" comes first and lays the basis for succesful active leveling. After that, just do a manual leveling via printer menu. The screw at the back should stay in position, while leveling is done by the coder wheel, the two front screws will do the fine adjustment, so there won't be much offset from the 14mm.
