Switch off UM2 after printing?

Posted · Switch off UM2 after printing?

Hi,

since I often do overnight prints with my UM2 I wonder if it is possible to shut down the UM2 after the print has finished.

At least I need to turn off the fans especially the very loud middle fan which is always on.

Also great would be to turn off LCD display and LED ligths.

Is this possible somehow?

It would be good to hear if some one has a better method, but I use a timer on the power plug. Just make sure it's set well in advance of the print duration. I have ruined a couple of good prints by getting this wrong and killing the power before it's finished.

    Hi Nick S,

thanks, I already though something like this, but a timer is not the best choice.

Maybe someone can develop a switch-off circuit which recognizes the bed coming down after print and interrupts the power...

Since most prints are long, often overnight, and sometimes need to be aborted mid print, I watch my prints with a drop cam and have the printer plugged into a wireless controlled switch made by Belkin. I can watch my print progress on my phone and also turn off the Belkin switch with an iphone app.

Replace your rear fan with this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/111400412083

Noisy fan problem solved. its so quiet you don't even know if its on.

I de-soldered the wires off my old fan and put them on the new one so i can still use the plug but you could use crimp connectors or something if you don't have a soldering iron.

I make a cup of tea or two, and watch mine. LOL what a sad life.

What Labern said. It seems that the third fan is extremely loud on some printers. I replaced mine, switched printer on and thought I confused some wiring since I heard absolutely nothing!

Is there also a quieter replacement for the side fans?

    Hi,

I ordered the fan Labern mentioned. I will mount it in if it arrives and let you know the result...

I have also ordered one from ebay. What i have read about the Fan, this one will work like a charm. Now I am looking for a low noise fan to replace the two side fans.

    Any suggestions?

I haven't looked into the side ones.

The stainless steel duct does make them louder. You can print others but I find they deform over time.

I wonder if you welded it up if it would make it more ridged and make them slightly quieter. Probably won't make to much difference.
