  1. It's disappointing to see these sorts of posts given the hype and excitement for this new printer.

Did you contact the reseller to get the problem resolved?   I'm pretty sure @sandervg would advise you to start there.

    just took a look at my printers;

just it seems it's the wrong way around. while this is something you can fix yourself, I don't think it's something you should do. your reseller should be able to fix this for you.

the little nicks on the side of the printer.. sure, they should not have happened. I just checked my printers and 2 of them have something similar. did not even notice them up to now and i'm not going to exchange the printer over it honestly.

i fully understand the comment around how much you paid for it and that you want a flawless machine. i'm sure your reseller can help you. was the machine bought in the UK?

as far as @lepaul 's comment. well, I don't think it's disappointing. these things will always happen even with super strict quality control. i had to compare pictures like 5 times before I could see the pulley was the wrong way around. it's all humans that build these and these things can happen.

also, you have to keep in mind, people that have a bad experience will find their way to this forum. people who have great experiences, not so much.. so you will always get a skewed image.. way more unhappy people then happy people..

  2. Thanks guys for the info !

I guess they will be Tuning the cura Software a lot the next weeks and months to get the best out of the new ultimaker.

But im so excited and delighted that they have now a working with a dual head printer with working support material. That for me was the number one wish... :)

One last question... have ultimaker finally produced a printer with a really good feeder ? I had the original old feeder on my ultimaker 2 Extended and it wasnt the best Thing in the world if you know what I mean.

Id love to think that they have got a really reliable clean Feeder that does not destroy 35 hour prints... :)

    Thanks.

    Ian

the feeder that comes with the UM3 is the version that comes with the UM2+ with a tweak or 2.. but yes, it's super reliable. sure things can be better but isn't that always the case? I've done a 5 day print with it.. no problems at all

  3. which glue stick are you using? there are good and bad ones.. i like the TESA ECO STICK.. works awesoeme for me..

take the glassplate out, clean it thouroughly.. then apply a thin layer of glue stick. take a towel, make it wet, dan gently smear theglue over the glass plate, so there is a super thin layer (not visible even).. that should work awesome.

  4. Thanks! Is there any difference in how it adheres to PLA / Nylon? Or maybe even ABS?

Or how it dissolves in water?

dissolves just as well, only tried it with PLA and i think it stuck a little bit better but not sure.. so I would not bet my life on it.. it just felt.. different :)

  5. Thanks for sharing Korneel, quite a nice set up you have going on there.

And not too long ago I think I saw that closet filled with Ultimaker 2+'s. Did they already depart to the school?

Why do you like Ice PVA better? Any noticeable difference? Would be interesting to know.

@Ronan, nice tank! How big is it? Good to hear the closet works as intended. And you can still check the progress using your phone or Cura :D

yes.. used to be Ultimaker 2s and 2+ printers.. and 10 cm less tall.. ;)

all printers moved to the school and they are super happy :)

    no good deed etc..

as far as the Ice PVA, for some reason it feels a bit "thicker" when depositing it, it feels sturdier.. in a large print i had to switch filaments, and I could see the difference between the Ice and Ultimaker PVA quite clearly. the ice filament was also more stable, more rigid..

@Ronan, how did it go with your Ultimaker in the closet?

Got 2 UM3's in the closet with a thick dampening blanket covering the door.

2x 15 hour prints came out perfect. Now finishing a 40+ hour long print, which i checked an hour ago, and was perfect.

So i think that solves the issue :)And i get a bit more peace and quiet :D

Somua tank (French WWII tank) was the test print:

Edit: Does PVA play nice with colorfabb PLA/PHA?

    regarding pla/pha > no.

so far best results i've had is ultimaker PLA with ultimaker PVA. but I'll be honest, I like the Ice Filaments PVA better.. seems to have better adhesion. haven't tried Ice Filaments PVA + PLA/PHA.

this is the enclosure I use. I have placed fans in the back and an environmental sensor. you have to make sure the temp is around or below 30 degrees celsius if you are dealing with PVA and PLA.. the feeders will bite into the filament if the temp of the filament gets too hot. I would not put them in a closet without ventilation. if you need a heated chamber, only cover the top and front, don't cover the back.

I've just completed a 5 day print with PVA and PLA.. total of 500 grams of PVA and 450 grams of PLA.. that's just not going to work through the same nozzle...

the dual material 5 days print is what i am looking for. Can you please share informations of print size, wall thickness and infill?

Do you think you'd be able to do the same print with nylon as main material?

The problem for me is the lack of tricky prints examples on the company website.

My friend from local printer store called me today because arrived an um3 to be presented to the customers, if i'm lucky i'll be able to test the printer next days

sure! unfortunately i can't share the models since they are part of the deal for a chemical company, but I can tell you about it :)

20 percent infill, 2 outer walls, 0.15 layer height, print size was around 15 by 15 by 16 I believe..

only drawback for me was the changing of spools mid print :) that was a bit of paying attention.. but no other issue at all..

i still have to test Nylon but heard great things about it.. will test it later this week
