UM3: temperature drops 30°C each minute while printing

Hello there,

I am a happy UM3 customer, but since 2 days I have huge temperature drops on my right extruder.

The left one (material 1) is completely ok, the right one (material 2) shows continuous temperature fluctuations of up to 30°C each minute or so, making my prints all unusable.

I tried with different print cores, and with different materials.

I checked if the connector in the printhead is connected, all fine. I tried pushing the cable a bit further down into the print head and fix it with tape (read it elsewhere), but didn't help. I use Cura 3.1 (stable version) as well as the current stable firmware.

Is this broken hardware or a software bug?

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Something may be wrong with your cable since it is happening with more than one core and material.

I would definitely check with your reseller or support people and see if you can get a new cable.

    That should not be happening.

I also noticed temperature drops of the right extruder. Only 10 degree drops but still. Screenshot of the temperature graph running firmware 4.0.

To me it looks like the power management is somewhat off. The IMHO undersized power supply probably doesn't help.

I remember reading that Ultimaker changed a few power setting with 4.0. Maybe @maht or another UM employe can help us to fix the problem?

Hi there. Same problem here. I belive its because of this new firmware update. Will try older one or beta and let you know if it helped.

Thank you @Msuurmond for linking the topic :)

@KindaichiShota I think your/my problem is partially fixed in the new test firmware version 4.1.20171222
