Ultimaker 3 Knocking Noise on X & Y Movement

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm working with a UM3 and during some x & y transitions/movements it makes a knocking noise - here is a video of that sound (below).  I've done some light push/pull on the extruder head, tried to move the build plate, etc and I'm unable to figure out the exact source of the sound.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello there,

I have the UM3E since 2 day's and it does have the same sound.

if you touch the Z axis rod close to bottom where stepper engine is attached you will feel this ticking is origine from this stepper.

I have no idea if it is normal or not, but sounds a bit weird indeed.

No problems. It happened to me also. It is the autoleveling feature. The printer is compensating on Z axis.

You can gently touch with the finger the z axle, and you will feel it.

Mine did that as well. I manually leveled and it was off by a little bit. Once I got it closer to being level and ran the auto level the knocking went away. Try that and see.

Definitely normal during the first 20mm Z-height with active leveling on, since that's when it makes corrections. Getting the bed more level with a manual leveling should help reduce it.
