I am wanting to change the colour of pla in my machine and was thinking of UM pearl white and black Metallic I have been told that some colours are better than others has anyone Experiance with these two. I wanted to stick to UM own brand unless others can tell me otherwise I'm in the UK so UM web sight seemed to be the best option.

Well since you're in the UK I would recommend Faberdashery They have excellent quality filament. One caveat is that it does not come on spools which has both negative and positive sides to it.

edit: One of these days I'm going to visit the home of whoever did the URL handling for this forum software and ask him why he isn't fired yet.

You will be better off if the filament isn't on a reel.

You can put it on a turntable flat on the floor (costs like 5 pounds) or you can build something out of kinex maybe? It's not that bad.

I am very jealous that you live in the same country as faberdashery.

It's because we are only in 2014, WYSIWYG editors are cutting-edge technology... <sigh>

There is no such thing as 'the best PLA'. There is good PLA and there is bad PLA. But which of the good materials is the best for you wholly depends on what you are trying to print (and even on what machine).

+1 for Faberdashery & Colorfabb. I like that Colorfabb sells by the spool and I also love that Faberdashery sells by the meter. I wish Faberdashery could supply spools as an alternative though. It's a must for larger prints as spooling it yourself has too many possible flaws.

I would not recommend laying flat on the floor without a turntable unattended, IMHO. I did this with the Architect's Stone PLA from Faberdashery and it got itself all twisted up, preventing proper feeding. All it takes is a brief slip of the pulled end to slide underneath a lower part of the coil and it binds up enough to stop the knobbed bolt from pulling it into the machine. Had I a turntable, maybe it would not have bunched up.

As a quick fix, I wrapped the loose filament around a 1/2 empty regular spool and taped large cardboard fins on both sides to keep it from falling off. Worked great.

I have since found a few different forked spool models on thingiverse/youmagine and plan on making one or two of those.
