  1. Well, although our Independence Day is over, I couldn't resist the attempt to play with multiple filaments colors in one print. The "Pause at height" plugin did not pause in my case for whatever reason (Cura 14.04RC1), but it was possible to detect the right time for the color change by the head moving away for a few seconds before continuing to print. Now, adding a Star of David onto the stretchlet might be a bit more challenging on UM2. Well, for me, at least.
  2. OK, tried the raft a few times and now can certainly add my token of the gratitude to Gregoire Passault and Daid. Works very well. Sticks to the glass without any glue. Keeps the printed parts in place, but they are easy to detach after the print, and have nice bottom surface. Perfect! My appreciations.
  3. Strange. I use standard Humbrol enamels. They do just as well as on any plastic model you can find in a hobby shop. Airbrush or by hand - very good results. I even tried a test without a primer - worked, too.
  4. Hi there, An immediate thing to suggest is to mark the "Spiralize" setting in Cura Advanced Options panel. The wall thickness seems to be too much. 0.8mm would be sufficient. What Cura version do you use? 14.03 gave me a rough surface most of the times. It was replaced by 14.04RC1 which is OK so far.
  5. Huge "like". Very nicely written. One funny note - they apparently made the "time machine" by publishing the page tomorrow - see the date at the top. :-)
  6. And here we go again. There's something that I probably fundamentally miss in this old saga of the underextrusion. Look: After an hour of happy printing, there was the devil click of the underextrusion, and yet another print is going to go to the trash bin. In the tests, my printer went well up to 13mm3. Colorfabb White, 210C, 30mm/s. There even were no retractions in the last layers before the problem, just the perimeter layers. The retraction settings: Minimum travel: 1.5mm Combing: off Minimum extrusion before retracting: 0.1mm Z hop: 0.075mm Cura 14.04-RC1 Very unhappy. :-(
  7. Didier - you're echoing my thoughts! Exactly the same titles! Civilization I! Simcity! Wolfenstein! Yeah!!! And now, my son started to play Civ 5 - we have a new generation of the gamers, and my wife is terrified.
  8. Actually, I'm pretty much happy with the Dells I have at home - one laptop and one desktop. Skint - could it be your stroke of misfortune?
  9. Still printing, so far this: Set the support and raft - to see what it is. The support is being generated rather strangely, only for a part of the base circle of the model: Printing the vase: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:30889
  10. Hurray! Downloaded, installed, printing...
  11. Mein Freund, The halftrack is made by a friend of mine from over 7,000 (seven thousand) paper parts. Most of them - re-worked or scratch-made, due to horrible quality of the original model. This thing is mind-blowing - there are helmets and Mauser karabines in the lorry. Needless to say, the rest of the Panzers have all the internals built, including ready shells, engine, etc. He is a real Master. About the dioramas - well, after I made the debut, we are about to talk about these projects with some of our members, yes. :-)
  12. At our modellers club here, it is a kind of tradition already to have exhibition in Armored Corps Museum at Latrun during yearly Passover festival there. So, we had it today. Along with some of the models, I also brought a few printing examples of the hot new technology - the 3D printing. They obviously caused a bit of stir. While practically everyone have heard at least something about the 3D printing, not many had a chance to see some of the 3D printed toys, let alone - to hold them. So, while entertaining the visitors, I thought that it is only thanks to this forum it was possible for me to achieve the little I did, and a few pictures would be a small token of the grattitude. My stuff - mostly card models, some are plastic and some are printed in 3D : Other models. First two pics are card models of unbelievable quality, others are plastic.
  13. Wow, that was close! On the other side, if you have already so much sun there, I might incline to have my vacation in Northern Deutschland this year.
  14. From my limited experience, it seems to be improper leveling and way too high temperature. Re-level carefully, set the bed temperature to 60C, no more. Print temperature of 210-220C should be enough for UM Blue.
  15. Update. Being really unwilling to harm the hardware, I was finally able to remove the stuck piece of the filament with awl, pliers, brute force and the help of my belowed wife who held one pice of the tube and gave me the winning idea at the first place. I really appreciate all your advices, they hopefully made me a bit smarter. yellowshark - should Colorfabb be notified about the problematic filament? If it would help them to improve the production, then of course, I'm willing to help.
  16. Thanks for the replies guys. I did some measurements of the filament - 2.78-2.86 at several places. HOWEVER - there was one severe thickening at one place, way above 3mm. I did not measure it back then, but it was big, like a bubble. Probably, this is the reason of my recent troubles. Right now, there's filament firmly stuck in the Bowden tube, I have no clue how to pull it out. The free end left sticks only a few mm out of one end, and on the other side of the tube, about 5 mm inside, flattened filament is dead into the tube's plastic, because the filament now is way beyond the internal tube's diameter. How to get it out? Can the tube be shortened by about 5 mm? I'm too tired this evening to think productively...
  17. gr5 - yes, my UM2 was sometimes clicking even while laying the very first layer.
  18. Hi, I admit having the very same issue as Herr Nicolinux. It doesn't bother me that much as there is even more severe issue I'm facing now: http://umforum.ultimaker.com/index.php?/topic/4620-problem-printing-colorfabb-pla/?p=46025  For the bottom - my theory is that it is the matter of leveling and temperature vs. the speed. Anyways, the problem goes away after a couple of layers. For the top - speed and temperature again perhaps? Can you try to raise the temperature to see the effect it produces? No other productive thoughts at the moment...
  19. OK, let me continue this topic. It's the 4th time my Colorfabb White bought somewhere in February fails midnight. Let the pictures talk. Failed at almost the same point I left it at the evening: Left: simply pulled the grinded end out of the extruder. Right: Pulled out effortlessly out of the printhead. Printhead: You can probably see that the head albeit unblocked, is covered with some darkish ooze. Sometimes, it is transparent clear. There's also bad smell of burnt stuff, which is not surprising. Right now, the other end of the filament is firmly stuck in the extruder and I wasn't able to remove it so far. That will be solved, of course, with due amounts of brutal force. It only happens with the Colorfabb White XL I have, maybe, because I use it the most. UM Blue never gave me this trouble. There's the chance it's not the filament but no idea what then. Why does it happen? What is the reason for this and how it can be prevented? UM2, 220C, 0.06mm, 50mm/s, nothing special.
  20. Couple of minutes ago - very light but palpably shaking of furniture and the rest of the things on my 10th floor in Santiago, Chile. That's my day...
  21. I would make it simpler and, hopefully, fair. Just try to post on other maker's forums, if you ever find them, and see if you receive such enthusiastic and warm replies en masse. 50% of the UM value is this forum. Unbeatable for me.
  22. And I'm on a business trip to Chile, already missing my Ultimaker with all its underextrusions and the beautiful music of printing. Does it count as a coffee cup? I can make some in my room.
  23. Thanks guys! Checked the extruder. The white marker was always at the top. Its screw was not tight but I unscrewed it a few turns more, just to be sure. Perhaps, will try to re-print the Coral once more, but not today - my wife is increasingly unhappy about the "plastic junk" piling up in the house. Let us wait. The picture by illuminarti isn't that clear, but the quality there seems to be obviously better than mine. It might be partly because the UM Blue tends to produce more bulbs than Colorfabb white, for the same settings. The Faberdashery might be even better, didn't try it yet. And yes, when printing this, the outstanding bowl of illuminarti came to my mind. Is this small bracelet more difficult? Can't believe it!
  24. Well, I have a small coral piece brought from Eilat once. It has certainly no blobs. :-) With all the recommended retration settings, the result was noticeable better, but very far from perfect yet. Indeed, when examning other prints on Thingiverse, almost all have similar <lack> of the quality. Is the model doomed to be so? On another note, all these massive retractions caused excessive grinding of the filament, up to the point when I had to remove it by force and cut off the chewed piece.
  25. Hi, Thanks for the assistance! The retraction settings are all default. Will try to play with them according to your recommendations tomorrow. Latest Cura 14.03 is being used, the head moves are smooth. as far as I can say.
