  1. Great news and I for one truly appreciate the fact that your thread was full circle. Initially you presented a concern and worked through it and then presented the resolution. I dislike threads that do not have closure. Thank you.
  2. Hi SandervG I use a 3 gallon container with warm warm; no circulation and we refresh it after each print. Thank you
  3. Hi SandervG I have fine this several times and nothing changes. The leds remain on constantly; bright while printing and low light when in resting state as shown in the pictures. Thank you
  4. Hi SandervG I turned it off and let it sit for a bit and then rebooted and tried again; the exact same thing. It appears to download the file and then begins the installation process and just sits there as if frozen. Thank you
  5. GigaWaTT I feel that I owe you an apology as your thread went off topic and I was part of this happening. Hopefully, even when off topic you recognize the satisfaction, appreciation, and enjoyment experienced with the Ultimaker printers. As others have shared; whether a Ultimaker 3 or a Ultimaker S5 I personally have “no” doubt that it will exceed your every expectation. All the best.
  6. LOL: with the PVA we are now printing complete assemblies that used to be glued together after the fact and some extremely complex and delicate prints; some prints are completed just for the sake of doing so to see what our and the printer's limits are and to what degree our expectations are met. Thus far our expectations have been exceeded on many many levels. I only wish, and frankly expected, that the PVA would dissolve a bit quicker but we have come to except that we toss it in the water for several hours; longer for the more complex parts, and then as it nears the end of of the dissolving process a nice soft toothbrush does a wonderful job of finishing the process. When compared to the old Exacto knife and sandpaper; there is no comparison. Furthermore; much of what we find our self printing simply can not be printed with breakaway support. .
  7. I will definitely try it; I should also say that since we received the S5 that PVA has been our best printing friend. Brims and Rafts as well as supports are always created with PVA and the results have been spectacular. Yes, material costs are a bit higher and there is an increase in print time however, the net results make me smile. We also have the designated Breakaway materiel but have not tried it yet.
  8. Into the freezer; huum... never tried this and yet with a fully cooled build plate the prints are able to be removed easily. We will try the freezer next.
  9. Spares = potentially less down time for a multitude of reasons. With the S5 we also purchased the .25 AA Print Core and a mix of filament. In addition we purchased 3 spare Print Cores; one of each so if we have one get clogged we can quickly swap it and tend to the clogged issue at a convenient time, a glass build plate for both a backup and to allow us to remove a print and let it slowly cool, cleaning filament; we have never used it so we’ll see if it is easier and more consistent than using PLA. If nothing else I like the idea of it being clear thus easier to see the dirty material drawn out of the Print Core, spare collets, spare white collet clips, and a few more silicon Print Core covers, and a spare hot end fan for the same reason as the spare Print Cores; if one goes bad it can be quickly swapped and any warranty issue dealt with after the fact. Our objective is not to be shut down; particularly after hours and or over a weekend should a typical issue crop up.
  10. Having the power brick effectively integrated within the underside is simply; nice. I don’t think lower weight aka additional ballast is a plus as the S5 is very stable. We also have our’s on a solid desk in addition we have thick felt pads under the four corners that eliminates the transient vibration and associated noise. Takes care
  11. Thank you Bigbrit It is nice to have you confirm the same experience. Seems very odd to me that at no time do the leds turn completely off whereas I am told that they do on the 3. I have not tried it on the lowest brightness so the flickering has not been experienced and yet I understand that which you described.
  12. Here are a couple pictures after the printer has sat unused for many hours; in the second picture you can see by information on the touch screen display that by this time the printer is in sleep mode and yet the leds remain luminated albeit dimmer.
  13. Your comments answered and confirmed the pulsing which I thought was odd; I suppose it is akin to “hey you”; LOL. The leds staying on 24/7 may be the nature of the printer or associated with the FW issue I am having. Either way is fine; I just want to know if normal. For your information; I asked SandervG directly if he would engage in the thread. Thank you Smithy as you “helped”.
  14. Thank you Smithy The only thing I don’t get is led off; if I have the glow when Print is completed on they pulse as you described until confirmed as removed and if the pulse when Print is completed is off the leds remain bright until I confirm as removed and then go to a low constant glow. To be clear; the leds never go off unless I turn the printer off at the switch. This is not something that just happened but rather something I just noticed. The picture I included with my thread showing the leds on is while the printer is in ready to print mode after sitting for 6 plus hours. Thank you again.
  15. Quick question Other than brightness there are 2 settings that can be toggled. 1. Only on while printing 2. Glow when printing complete I have 1. On and 2. Off and the led are bright when printing and dim when not; they never turn off. I tried turning 2. On and when the print is completed the led’s pulsate from dim to brighter; most annoying and does not seem right. Am I missing something? Per the options I should have led light while printing and darkness when not. Assistance will be appreciated. Thank you
  16. Good evening. This evening I updated Cura to 3.5; no issues and then I checked the S5’s FW. I selected the one that showed stable version and the process proceeded. It downloaded the file and then began updating; an hour later it was still in a holding pattern so I looked within the forum and it was suggested to turn it off and let it reboot. Once the printer has rebooted I tried the FW update again and it downloaded the file and once again after the installation began it did the exact same thing; sat for an hour doing nothing; why? Could it be that the latest FW is already installed and there simply is not a confirmation given? The present FW is 5.0.19.20180622 How can one tell if this is the latest version? Thank you
  17. I agree. I too asked about the finite accuracy at the onset because I wanted to understand what is the acceptable norm without, tweaking Cura’s default parameters and then I asked what parameters I could tweak if I wanted something even more precise. We have learned much over the last few weeks with our appreciation of the consistent prints that the S5 creates being number 1. I too printed and measured cubes, tubes, and combinations thereof until we had a box of them; LOL. It is a plastic and far more susceptible to a multitude of variables that I don’t have to deal with when machining metals; some of which you can control to a degree. And yet at a moments notice much changes; 1. The weather; more or less humidity 2. Ambient Temperature 3. The material; even if from Ultimaker and more so; the color. 4. How long it was allowed to cool on the build plate. 5. Was a donor part printed at the same time if printing a single piece so that during the print the layers properly cool before the next one was applied. 6. Was there build plate adhesion; none, brim, raft. And... the list goes on. So for me I looked for consistency and then design and print to this as such during these last few weeks have not had what I would consider; a single failed print with many of them being 3-4 day prints. As shared: if dimensionally critical I will print a test part to establish a baseline; this particularly if I will be joining pieces however, the upside for us is because of the larger build area with the S5 many pieces that we used to have to join can now be printed as a single piece. Lastly; PVA has made our 3D printing a total game changer. The print times are much longer and the per part expense higher however, what we can do with it is “extreme” and the pieces once the PVA is dissolved; phenomenal. No clippers, files, sandpaper, etc.. Having shared this; PVA has nuances and unique character traits that we are beginning to understand better in much the same that we got to understand what to expect from the printer when used in a default mode. We also purchased a roll of the Breakaway material however, have not tried it yet. in any case, I encourage you to follow Smithy’s suggestion and “have fun printing your objects and not a test object after test object”.
  18. As shared; no personal experience with the 3 however, I know a few that have them and all with great success. We considered both as the price point difference is measurable. For us the larger build area was not pivotal and yet; we have come to appreciate it even in the short time we have had it. For us, the following became the basis of selecting the S5. 1. Filament sensor, as we typically run multiday prints and whether because we run out of material or it simply fails to feed we want the print to pause. 2. Glass doors, far easier to control temps and they look nice. 3. Feeder with upgraded filament tension setup for loading as well as the hardened gear sets for use with more aggressive materials and full use of the newly released CC Print Core. 4. Advanced auto bed leveling. 5. Touch screen; not because of the screen but rather because the interface offers more information and it easy to use. Additional differences that are appreciated; no power brick but rather a simple power cord, quieter, and the aluminum build plate. All the best with your decision.
  19. I can’t speak of the 3 however, the S5. I like the peace of mind and frankly, consistant results received from the active bed leveling. I did a manusl level when it was received a few weeks ago and have let it complete the active bed leveling since. There were a couple instances when it failed during the active bed leveling process; why I can only speculate and yet it retried without having to reload the print and always successfully on the second attempt. For what it is worth, the S5 has a more comprehensive when compared to the 3, active bed leveling routine; roughly 50 points are checked which I find value in. Regardless; I think that both the 3 and the S5 would be enjoyed. Takes care
  20. We have been using a prime tower and are diligent about keeping the tips clean; we will pay more attention as a dirty tip with material hanging is always possible. Thank you
  21. Thank you all By the way; you are correct; it is a rar file that I changed the extension on to zip but most tools work with this act fine.
  22. You are the man!!! Thank you for watching the video and confirming that all is normal. All the best.
  23. Hi Smithy Your wife's description sounds about right; I was able to attach a short clip. Thank you again for you time and assistance.;
