Additional cube model printed

My Ultimeker 3 and Cuara decided to print a small cube at the same time as the model. Why ?

Hello and thank you for the welcome.

 

I attach a picture of the small cube that was printed. This lengthened the

time the model took and print and I could find no way to switch it off or

any information either in the manual or on the web.

Is this the wipe tower?  

 

There should be a checkbox in cura somewhere for "wipe tower".  If you look at your part in slice view and you see this cube and then you uncheck "wipe tower" it should go away.

 

The purpose of the wipe tower is that sometimes the idle nozzle leaks a bit with a tiny "sausage" sticking out the bottom.  If you don't wipe it then you get that sausage attached to the side of your print - and one on every layer potentially.

 

But the temperature control of idle nozzles is so good now in cura that this probably is not an issue and you probably don't need the tower.

Another purpose of the tower is to make sure the nozzle is fully primed which may, or may not, make a difference depending on what and how you're trying to print.

Appreciate your time in replying.

Cura only started to show the 'tower' a couple of days ago. I didn't turn it on, so perhaps it occurred when I updated Cura

to the latest version.

In CURA, it is found on Dual Extrusion -> Enable Prime Tower.
