Hi everyone,

We have been having a problem with ABS prints breaking our print plates using the recommended settings. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also do you know if there is a way to keep your print plate warm overnight after a print finishes?

Best & thank you,

John

If by breaking you mean the print is stuck to the glass and it chips parts of it when removing then you need to apply a generous amount of UHU glue stick before printing.

The prints will pop right off after cooling.

Don’t ask me why but when I tried with a different brand of glue stick, the prints would not come off.

For bigger parts I use UM adhesion sheets to protect the glass bed.

the adhesion sheets are a nightmare. Takes days for the part to come off in water

Using hairspray works perfectly for me. Haven't damaged a plate since

We print a fair amount of ABS on our S5 and have broken glass by removing prints while they are still warm. We print directly on the glass, and clean it with glass cleaner before each print. If allowed to cool, the prints release themselves, or pop off with minimal effort. Since getting spare build plates and allowing the prints to fully cool, we have had no issues.

We also have no adhesion issues printing directly on the glass with PLA, PETG, or ABS, but we do utilize a good brim, especially on taller parts.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
