The only one I have been to so far is in Dover, New Hampshire They had a Mini-Maker Faire that was great. I am working with a friend of mine who organizes large events, like Comic-Con type things, about putting together a MakerFaire in my area. We have a lot of technology in the region, schools and much more that could really show off advanced manufacturing, robotics and more. The University has an advanced robotics research area, testing robotic ideas for things like surgery and more. My first R2 only has internal items made on the Ultimaker. I needed a means to mount the electronics inside R2. I have printed several Arduino UNO holders and other things that keep everything organized..so they do not short circuit! The second R2 does have 3D printed parts made. As beautiful as CNC aluminum parts are, they are heavy. I have been working on replacing some of the detail pieces with 3D printed ones, to reduce weight. Once painted, you can't tell the difference Here's the 'coinslot' piece that is on the front of R2 printed with Ultimaker Silver PLA I also use the Ultimaker to prototype parts that will be used to test fit inside the droid. If they fit and work out, sometimes I re-print them to a stronger/higher fill density or ship the part to the machine shop to be made in aluminum. The Ultimaker has come in handy for making small pieces, such as washers or spacers for some assemblies. Learning how to draw parts was tough, I found Sketch Up works alright for many quick fixes. And of course, learning how to use Cura and the Ultimaker to get good results just takes time and experience. Sorry for the long reply

The more, the merrier Welcome! Read a lot. Ask a lot. Learn a lot. I do a lot of education and charity work too. I have a full-size R2-D2, with many 3D printed parts deep inside of it, helping hold those valuable electronics in place. "We", R2 and I, primarily do Pediatric hospital visits but get many requests for appearances elsewhere. My God Son died of brain cancer when he was 5 back in 1994. The outreach so many did for him, to comfort and entertain him, made a big impact on me. When I found a club that built R2-D2s, I knew such a robot would be loved at a hospital. So, it has been my geeky way of giving back. Putting a smile on a very sick child's face means the world to me. The members here have taught me a lot, from building my kit to fine tuning the machine...and more. Enjoy!

To the touch, these pieces look good. Do these look fine to the experts? These are the forward stock and scope mount to the Star Wars 7 blaster. A handful of pieces to go and my fellow Stormtroopers can sand, fill as needed, then use Smooth-On to make copies of this in resin. I can't print the tall barrel, it is too tall for my UMO. I would need to get in touch with someone who has an Ultimaker Extended to print it.

Thanks, James, Kevin and Neo. I appreciate the feedback. While I like Cura, there are some times I would like better supports that are easier to remove, post-processing. I know Cura continues to get better but sometimes it is nice to have an alternate slicer to compare against. Then decide which will provide the best results.

So far so good today. I'm glad it wasn't just me! Here at the University we have many fiber optic connections to the Internet so I am spoiled.....used to things loading instantly. (I wish I could say the same for my home internet)

Well, I made in error in how to place the item on the bed I thought Cura would add support to the top layer but that didn't happen. My bad not checking the layer view. So, we did it over again. I did bring the temperature down to 200 after the skirt started printing at 210. 40 mm/sec The left part with the big overhang is better, a few minor rough spots. The one on the right, the top area, especially to the fair right...I'm not sure what that is. Maybe it comes down to this....white shows every line much more than other colors?

For larger prints that take 20+ hours, I want good support structures that are easy to remove. Cura's good for most things but from what my friends are showing for results, the ability to click off and on what supports you need seems very appealing.

My friends printing the Star Wars droid BB-8 are using it. For very, very long prints they praise the options and stability.

The custom supports seems very appealing for the prints I do.

Sander, perhaps delete your cache if it is persistent? I run CCleaner every few days, since I accumulate a lot of temp files during the week.

I am seeing the blue circle go around and around when at the main Forum page and select a category to enter. Troubles?

I keep having various issues with Cura and many of my friends are raving about Simplify3D Before I spend the money, I thought I would see what others thought of it

There certainly is an art to it. I find if the paper can slide through, but with a bit of friction, that's about right. I found if the nozzle was pressing into the paper, that's a bit too low. My bed upgrade kit arrived last week, I am looking forward to installing that soon and having the 3-point method the U2's have

Ok, so the flap you outlined is perforated up top. I moved it back and forth a few times to un-stick it from facing straight down and out some. I haven't tried a large piece yet, just the quick-settings and Ultimaker robot, which turned out alright (a little droop on the top of the robot chest seems normal). Is there some test print models you can share that would help calibrate? Test cubes/squares I have seen others print out? I'd just like to use a reference everyone knows well, then I can post photos of my results. It would be helpful to know what settings you would advise (0.1 , etc) The only thing I can think of is.... I did increase the retraction slightly by 0.2 a few weeks But asides that, I have been trying to print at 30-40 mm/sec (for good details) at 200-205. Too cold?

Question about time lapse... What sort of delay do you guys use? I was using an app for the iPhone 4 that takes a photo every 10 seconds....but upon playback, its just not as smooth as recording the entire thing and then speeding it up. The delay makes it too jumpy. What's the magic number

We said good-bye today. It was extremely hard to do but his health declined rapidly. I thank you guys for your condolences. I stayed for the entire process. He died on my shoulder, his favorite place to be. Sorry to be off topic

Thanks guys. First pet I have ever had to euthanize. He is comfortable and eating all of his favorite foods and getting a lot of lap-time. Monday afternoon he'll make his last trip to the vet. But until then, lot's of love.
