  1. The beta testers are doing a great job! The dock and printhead have been enhanced so the the parked head will securely stay in place even in worst conditions like using old heavily curled filament. And there will be a printhead expansion board for most easy wiring, containing additional fan drivers for the second print head which can be controlled separately then. On the software / firmware side there's a little more work to do. Ultimaker is very busy working on Cura and we want to make the best possible integration package for the tool changer. But there are still quite a few things changing in Cura from one release to the next. So we want to have everything working with upcoming Cura 2.4 and then invite more people to join.
  2. That's more or less the issue with all silicone sock variants, even with the E3D one as far as I can see. It's difficult to make them thin AND rigid enough around the hole. I did some experiments with fiber enforced PTFE adhesive, which is insanely strong, even with thicknesses of 0.5 mm and below), and really non-sticky. But if you punch a hole the fiber ends will start to fray over time. If this can be solved it would be a very interesting alternative.
  3. Using an Olsson block and a Matchless block for dual extrusion on an UM2+. Nozzle change is 20 sec and I can immediately continue printing, no X/Y/Z re-calibration needed. Using E3D's V6 on a corexy printer. Nozzle change takes 2 min and requires additional pliers to hold the block. I've to re-calibrate X/Y/Z because the nozzle tip which is far apart from the mounting bracket will most likely have moved a few fractions of a millimeter.
  4. That's kinda funny. My impression is that @swordriff 3dsolex 0.4 mm works better for PVA than a standard nozzle. Most likely the internal, two-channel geometry helps to prevent agglomeration of burnt PVA in some way.
  5. Well honestly, PVA on PLA without any help is still kind of an issue no matter what machine. The "secret" is to have either large flat top PLA surfaces for the PVA (obviously not the case here) or an interconnecting PVA structure ("horizontal expansion" in Cura) so that the PVA on top of the PLA doesn't form an island. Ofc there are still geometries where this is difficult/impossible to achieve.
  6. Finally I replaced my TFT couplers, now back to printing 50% size, 11 hrs printing
  7. Beta testing update The first tool changer upgrades are running. We already changed two things. First, there is an alternative, super rigid dock version. Due to some manufacturing tolerances with the UM2 frame panels (e.g. thickness 6.0 mm vs 6.1 mm) the first version's click-on mount may not fit tight enough on every printer. Second, I added a small "life-saver" device, providing an additional mechanical interlock when picking up the head. Moving ahead I don't know your plans for the upcoming holidays and the first beta round isn't finished yet. But if some of those who showed interest on the doodle poll intend to use some free time to work on this at the turn of the year please send me a message. I'll update the documentation soon, so there should be an opportunity to join.
  8. I'm sure any issues will disappear once the bowden tube has the right length.
  9. Hi guys, Yeah, the conny_G print is one of the first he made with the tool changer. Doesn't look that bad I expect some more people to finish the upgrade print the first parts until next week. One of the first results of beta testing was to design a second variant for the dock. The maufacturing tolerances of the UM2 frame (maybe caused by different production lots over the years) are probably too high for a safe click-on mounting. Imperial sized magnets would work as long as their holding force is in the range of 900 gr. But we would have to modiy the couplings to accomodate the larger diameter. The small difference in height shouldn't be an issue.
  10. Well, during the week most of them seem to be quite busy with their daytime work. I expect the first finished upgrades this weekend.
  11. It looks like some kind of cast metal. At least the design of this part follows all the rules e.g. shapeways set up for their steel material (which is half bonze). But I suppose you would have to pay something like 30 € there.
  12. Kurze Nachricht am Tag vorher und Du kannst gerne mal vorbei schauen.
  13. Again, a picture ... Single extrusion build volume remains like before.
  14. Maybe a short video is worth a thousand words. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=https://youtu.be/viX_WLRqxYM
  15. Up to now, Ultimaker might change this in the future, the UM2(+) electronics already feature the required 5th stepper driver, 3rd temp sensor input and heater output. Only the fans (printhead, part cooling) have to be connected in parallel. Single extrusion remains unchanged, for dual extrusion the additional head will be picked up and parked again every layer. This is all handled by firmware.
  16. Version 1.0

CPE and Formfutura Flexifil. I used the Cura CPE defaults for Flexifil, just lowered speed and reduced retraction.
  17. S3D should be supported as well. It actually always was but with adapting to new Cura the job supporting both becomes a little more tricky.
  18. A good example, besides the ones conny_g mentioned, for a PLA / PVA print with the tool changer is this one: [print=5463][/print] There is actually a z offset between both nozzles, which is one of the key ideas of this approach. It's handled by the firmware. You don't need a plugin as there will be config files for Cura 2.3 to set up this as a special machine.
  19. You did not miss anything. It's just a second drive train (feeder, hotend, wiring, fans, aluminum print head parts, fans, fan shroud) and the magnets.
  20. Basically you can use whatever feeder you want. There are only two requirements: Both feeders should be identical If it's not the UM2+ feeder, you will have to use your own (or Bondtech's) mounting brackets
  21. He actually used Ultiarjan's rail system first. Last week we decided it would be nice to have something smaller (faster to print). So yes, you can use the rail system as well.
