  1. This is a known issue / by design. If Cura detects files from an older version, it backs them up into folders marked "old" and upgrades them. There is no automatic "downgrade" functionality. This means you can no longer go back a version without manually restoring files from these "old" folders. Thanks @ahoeben for clarifying my mistake. I have two more questions about this. I will try "restoring" my old folders and try to get 2.3.1 working again. Is this documented anywhere? Because as i look at them I'm worried for the following reasons: A. \AppData\Local\cura\old - this only contains cura.cfg which has no settings just a version number. B. \AppData\Local\cura\machine_instances\old - this only contains printer_name.cfg files which has no settings for the machine just their names. C. \AppData\Local\cura\profiles\old - this only contains profile_name.cfg files from a while ago august 2016, these are old probably from 2.1, so I'm not sure where the profiles from yesterday went. D. those are the only "old" folder I can find. ALSO Where is the fact that you can't run multiple versions of 2.x documented? I'm not finding it: 1. on the download page. 2. in the release notes. 3. in the blog post announcing the new CURA 2.4. 4. In the quick start guide (still 2.3, I do not see a 2.4 quick start yet). I suppose it's my fault that I incorrectly assumed that (like previous versions) the new cura install was going into it's own folder which would mean that I could run them side by side. I must have never tried going back until this time. Some kind of warning would be nice in all the places I have listed above. Just some simple text such as "please manually uninstall ALL previous versions of 2.x before installing 2.x+1 or it's possible that you will lose all/some of your machine definitions and printing profiles."
  2. CURA 2.4 jams UMO+ after each print, suspect end gcode settings adding 1mm more to retract at end than 2.3.1 After printing 4 things with CURA 2.4 on my UMO+ I have to un-jam the bowden tube each time I tried to do another print. I have looked and 2.4 is retracting 1mm more that 2.3.1 did. When I installed 2.4 I grabbed my machine profiles, so I thought all was the same but this was not. At this point all my printer profiles and print settings have been lost , so I'm uninstalling 2.4 and trying to get back anything I can, but not hopeful.
  3. CURA 2.4 ignores "print one at a time" and exports "all at once" gcode instead, even after layer view preview shows proper print one at a time layers win7 Also under this category I have the following feedback. 1. Moving objects was almost impossible. attempting to move an object required multiple attempts since you could not grab them. I was only able to move by using the arrows, and even this only worked once in every 5-7 attempts at clicking and dragging. (I did not try typing in the boxes) 2. The shading around the object which shows the print head space disappears when you start to move the object. This used to stay so you could properly place the object compared to the other objects on the build platform.
  4. CURA 2.4 and 2.3.1 don't play nice on same Win7 computer 1. Installed 2.4 , it found my printers and life seemed good. I was even able to add a Delta machine to my settings. Loving it! 2. closed 2.4 3. Opened 2.3.1 and it asked to add printers, since there were none? actually it could not find any settings (like saved printing profiles). 4. closed 2.3.1 5. opened 2.4. it also has zero printers now and wants to add some, lost all settings like saved printing profiles. That's not very cool. :-(
  5. I'm playing around with "drop printing" or "selective drop print". the new CURA 2.x is so fun and inspiring me to do interesting things like these decorative vases. I'll post more fun models soon. I've been toying with this for months. See the youmagine page for more details and a tutorial video I made to share my process so others can have fun too.
  6. Version 1.0

Goofing around with drop printing or selective drop printing. Printed in ColorFabb Violet and UM Peal White.
  7. Sorry for any confusion here. I am over joyed you are using google now, so many of us had been asking for that for years. In the past I said having a working search was much more important than the point system/gamification. So now I was hoping since the search bugs were solved/resolved this might mean the developers could work on getting the point system functional. Not yet, the errors I listed in my post are still an issue.
  8. @sandervg it's been a few months and you have "solved" the search issues. Any progress on the disconnect between the point system and badges? This was one of the main stated reasons for changing the whole world upside down, was it not? Great page thanks for highlighting it. How do points and levels correspond? That info might be helpful too. Like is 1 level=50 points? or does it change as they go up? ALSO when I recently received some badges I did not get the points shown on this page. For example on my points page i can see when I received the "forum superstar" I only got 50 points not 100 like the page says. and "guest blog contributor" was only 20 points and (i may be wrong) I think that must be that same as "community author" which should be 100 points. Not that this is more important than finally removing the search and pointing everyone to use google to search which is the sensible thing to do. I just thought if you are interested in promoting the badge and ranking system, then it should be clear and work as advertised.
  9. I think in practice the z-shafts and shafts that hold the print head need less oil as routine maintenance. I do feel like I am cleaning and putting oil on the X-Y shafts a lot, like every 10-15 print hours, because they start to feel "dry". But the z-shafts seem to be fine for months and keep their nice oily sheen, probably because they have so little movement compared to the X-Y shafts. also the bars that hold the print head seem to need less oiling, I'm guessing since they don't have the added rotational movements.
  10. All the UM official documentation clearly states that you SHOULD oil the z shafts, but not the z screw which requires green grease. Really? Please link/photo/screenshot well...I just followed the link YOU provided in this thread, see image below, I have highlighted the text in question. Also this same official UM page has a link to fbrc8 instructions. I have put the screen shot here highlighting the text. Maybe there is another place where UM says other wise? Have you read some where that UM recommends not to put oil on the Z-shafts?

  12. ok, I made a better test model which I could print faster and test up to 5 different settings in one print. and I discovered: #1. (duh) There are several speed parameters and "PRINT SPEED" does not change all print speed settings. For this thin wall model I needed to modify "WALL SPEED" in order to see a difference. #2. At 50mm/s changing FLOW has little effect on the print since there is a limit to how fast you can extrude plastic. At 210C with PLA that is probably ~6mm^3/s . Here's a nice photo of my tests (click for big view). AND here is a link to my improved test print file in case anyone else needs such a printing test object. https://www.youmagine.com/designs/test-box-for-cura-per-model-settings
  13. I'm trying to adjust the flow and print speed using the per model settings and getting unexpected results. Any advice about misunderstandings or errors I'm making would be greatly appreciated. UMO+ CURA 2.3.1 Changes made in CURA Normal part = flow 100% , speed 50mm/s Bridge part = flow 500% , speed 5mm/s (see video) What I was expecting was that the bridge part would print very slow and extrude a lot so you would get lacy loops accumulating all over the wall below. But I did not see that. During the bridge part the speed does not look anywhere close to 5mm/s and the output(flow) also does not seem to increase. FLOW? Based on the CURA documentation it seems like FLOW should only effect extrusion rates but I am not able to verify that--OR -- FLOW also changes other parameters that I am not aware of. SPEED? I realize the "normal part" is probably not printing at 50mm/s due to min layer time settings (default 5sec) so I would not expect a 10X speed change, but I have seen 5mm/s speeds and the "bridge part" is not moving that slow. I have uploaded my model and gcode here in case this helps: https://www.youmagine.com/designs/test-vase-for-cura-per-model-settings
  14. @SandervG can you also check the points awarded, seems like there is a disconnect somewhere. Great page thanks for highlighting it. How do points and levels correspond? 16. Are you asking for people to join the pioneer program? Or are you asking if it's a good idea to post a "particularly universal topic" to harvest the community's input for summary and re-posting on the edu site?
  17. This notification just took me to the top of the page in that thread, and the last entry is not separated from the old posts with the "new posts" separator. So unless you look at the timestamp of the post you won't, easily, recognize what you have not read. https://ultimaker.com/forwardnotification/168478 My notification said there were 4 unread and took me to the top of page 50, when I got to page 51 there was no line separating read from un-read. https://ultimaker.com/forwardnotification/37370
  18. thanks, this worked! basically change the plugin value for "retract amount in mm" to 128 and it worked. Do you know if the general retraction settings are also read as mm^3 and not mm?
  19. I've only done manual color changes , and have been watching this. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mosaic3d/the-palette-3d-printing-evolved/posts/1656840 Which (if it works ) would allow you to make your own mosaic filament out of colors you like. Actually did not read enought to see if they have a 2.85mm version in the plans.
  20. Both great suggestions thanks, I will give that a try tonight.
  21. Has anyone had luck with this? this is what I did. 1. use the pause at height plugin to pause at specific height. 2. once paused (using UM2+) perform and filament change from control screen. 3. Had plenty of the new color coming out of the nozzle. 4. select resume job. 5. nozzle did not extrude any plastic for 2 layers...print ruined. Have you had luck with this? Cura 15.04.5 UM2+ firmware 15.04.5 (this works like a charm on my UM+)
  22. just comes up browsing page for me. ED yeah same for me it tries to load but then I end up here: https://play.spotify.com/browse
  23. it this a thing still? I'm a spotify noob, but when I try to follow that link I get re-directed to some generic landing page. If I search for "ultimaker community" or Sneakypoo 21 I get nothing. :-( also love this idea! For the sake of sharing, my fav 3d Printing music is prog rock in album format, such as , or Yes, Rush, The Who (Tommy is nice). Also I agree Daft Punk is wonderful for 3D printing as is Skrillex. And when I need a change of pace Gong is nice.
  24. Love this. you put them on a turn table, are you considering spinning with a strobe light so the twisting would look like it was happening in real life?
  25. Oh, thanks @neotko for noticing that. I agree what a HUGE improvement!! Taking a quick glance looks like I need to get to work again. I can already see some details I would change, mainly with some of the photos that can lead to frustration. I'm sure there will be a lot less notes to this much improved version.
