OnShape (The modern day Solidworks?)
chrisr replied to willysnowman's topic in Design for Additive Manufacturing
Hmmmm. Created an account to try this particular 'offering' despite having a complete eversion to any design process which is "cloud based" as you're utterly beholden to the providers future whims, despite their glowing startup promises, your internet connection and their implementation over it, to provide a fluid working environment compared with software running locally. The two just do not tally. Essentially, anything "cloud based" read - 'on other peoples remote computers via the internet' - can never be as easy and as quick as something running locally on your own machine. But. I am interested to see how 'agreeable' their particular take on CAD is, given their pedigree and given there is no 'standard' for CAD, just each manufacturers particular take on how they think CAD should be implemented. Just like each manufacturer has their own take on how schematic capture and pcb layout software should be done. If it's intuitive and easy to get going with, I'd suggest they offer something stand alone and not "cloud based" First impressions, having logged in just now, I suspect I'll probably quite quickly junk this particular offerring, but I'm willing to prod and poke it a while longer until (I suspect) it will eventually completely irritate the heck out of me. I'm happy to be proven otherwise, but I doubt that'll happen. I just so do not like the idea of any "cloud based" design for so many reasons. -
Hmmm.... I think I'll be holding off any future purchase for a while.

You're a very evil man :-P

(DonMilne) My thoughts entirely, I briefly wondered what I had written to get banned?? But it seems that UM's service (account) is what got "suspended" - phew -

Using E3D nozzles on an Original extruder

Cura 15.02.1 printing infill before perimeters
chrisr replied to jonnybischof's topic in UltiMaker Cura
I've virtually stopped using Cura for the issues you've mentioned and am now using S3D more. You can choose either inner->outer or outer->inner. -

That's exactly what I'm saying (just expressed differently) As regards cloud based slicing, or even cloud based compiling, an idea once briefly suggested by a PIC compiler I no longer use (for other reasons) i.e "pay-as-you-compile" Count me well out. I just don't want to have to be tethered to the internet each time I decide to slice/compile/design/create or print anything. I want those tools, stand-alone, on my machine. :-)

Cloud based slicing... no thanks. The way I'm seeing this is an unnecessary/extra layer of obfuscation/complication shoved in between what I want to print and how I'm then permitted printing it. For that reason and the IP issue, as pointed out being better covered through legal means, makes this concept even more of a non-starter (imho) If a part isn't available, I'll design it myself and slice it with either CURA, S3D or Kiss etc., part of the joys of owning a 3D printer. You retain control of it. :-)

"Don't have permission to view image" The build plate area now reflects what the (left hand) nozzle can reach.

If I understand this right.... ? This is like http://www.thingiverse.com/ and https://www.youmagine.com/ which are both free... But if I used NovoMaker... I'd have to pay per print, have my UM2 tethered to my PC which in turn would have to remain on throughout the entire print duration, while also needing to remain connected to the internet for however long it took the print I've purchased to complete? Why would I want to do any of this? :???:

Yes, it's straightforward to do. These are the steps to remove the nozzle - obviously you may not need to go that far, but handy to know about all the same. The dissasembly shows how to get at the isolator. You may need to order a replacement from UM (it's in their shop) or, if your UM is under warranty they may even send you another. https://ultimaker.com/en/products/spare-parts Phoning is the quickest way to get in touch rather than through email. https://ultimaker.com/en/support Assembly manual https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2/blob/master/um2%20assembly%20manual%20V1.1%20_english.pdf

If you've thoroughly checked and are happy that your feeder works okay & your filament (2.85mm) isn't being tangled on it's route - which is friction free, the bowden tube is clear & your nozzle is clear... there's little left mechanically that can cause a problem. Sorry to bang on - but you've not checked your isolator have you? You're certain that's ok then? The isolator will deform over time and cause you problems. Replace it & I'd put money on that solving your problem. 50p bet? (I win either way)

Have you ever changed the hot end Isolator in your UM2? That's a part which over time, will eventually degrade and will require replacing. It will cause printing problems if it's become worn. Have you tried the Atomic method to clean out your nozzle? 240C for PLA is very hot at 50mm/s and 0.1mm layer height. Check your isolator. :-)
