It's interesting seeing everyone's workspace.
Here's a phone pic of mine. It's always very cluttered with stuff:
very nice work area Bill !!
is your ultimaker now printing without problems ? :-)

Yes it's working, other than the ongoing warping problems of printing large flat objects, and one bad spool of filament that was larger than the stock Bowden tube could feed, The filament literally got stuck in the tube. I fixed the fat filament problem by swapping the Bowden out to one with a 4mm ID. I hope to get around the warping issue using the UM2 I ordered a few days ago from Maker Shed. I print mainly with PLA and I think the heated bed will help a lot with the large flat objects.
My UM has been working fine for months now. I basically ordered a bunch of parts and swapped all the electronics and wiring out at once. After I did that, it's been running fine. Something was obviously wrong, but I have no idea what it was. I'm just happy it's finally working the way most of yours have been working all along. In fact, I have the parts to add a heated bed to it, but I've been afraid to mess with it, since it's been working so well. It really is a good printer once it's working right.
Hopefully my upcoming experience with the UM2 will erase any memories of the many problems I had with the UM1.
Bill even if you had problems with your ultimaker... you always had us ! :-)
talking about warping... i do a lot of 3d prints for house and large building design.. so big flat parts all the time...
what i found is... if you use a ultimaker 1 or 2... good quality tape on your heated bed ! i like a tiny profile on the tape so the pla really melts and sticks.. secondly... heated bed brilliant but not so hot... i think the starting temp on the um2 is 70.. bring that down to 50 or 55. Also print the first few layers really close to the base... also use brim... also use a lot of cooling....
last secret weapon is... im getting incredible flat prints from colorfabbs woodfill fine PLA... and for model making.. it does look kinda amazing :-)
what ever happens... keep us updated when the new wonder printer arrives and we will get your printing like a pro in zero time...
Best wishes.
Ian :-)
I had my UM2 in my computer room, but the fumes seemed to get to me too much so I moved it to the garage.
I'm printing the last case connector for the Tantillus Case!
Right around 100 hours of solid printing!
ah you all have so much room. i have a space barely big enough for the printer itself!
New apartment and new Ultimaker happy corner
Guess it´s time to show you mine :-)
I have a nice arrangement with my girlfrend - she got her own room, I got my own room (ok she got the kitchen)...
Just kidding - my home office is partially my workbench, partially office, partially store for some model helicopters for which spare parts I initally bought the UM...
