Print Head damaged?

Hi Forum,

My UM S5 can no longer print with Print Core 2.

First I tried to clean the nozzle, but it turned out that a spring prevented the Print Core from being placed correctly inside the Print Head.

Please see attached photos.

I tried to place the Print Core, using a tweezers to push up the spring, while inserting the Print Core.

But still the Print Core cannot print.

I also tried with a new Print Core, but still no printing. I guess that the new Print Core isn't clogged, so that cannot be the issue.

 

Does anyone know about this spring?

Is something broken, or will I be able to push the spring back in the correct position?

Does the spring failure have any relation to the non-working Print Core?

 

Any help is highly appreciated.

Suppose UMS5 and UM3 have the same printcore structure. From the UM3 step file, we can see the spring in pirntcore 2. It should not come out to be seen. That means it is damaged and you should return it to distributor for service.

I think that you are right. It seems that the ring supporting the spring is missing.

I might be able to replace this component myself.

How do I get hold of such a component?

It is sure you can replace it by yourself. But it might break warranty. If warranty is not a concern then you can print the part by another 3D printer. (My UM3 refuses to work if printcore#2 is not well installed. No idea about UMS5). As I can see, you also need support material to print this part. That means you need another 3D printer with two extruders.

 

The part's file name is "2116-H.STEP". You can download all UM3 STEP files from https://github.com/Ultimaker.

 

I don't know if UM3 and UMS5 have the same printcore design or not. I guess they are the same. But you had better to make sure this issue before disassembling your machine.

Great to have access to this level of detail on your 3D Printer.

Where did you get this?

I would really like to have access to the same on my UM S5, including parts lists.

This will enable me to make (almost) any repair on the machine.

 

Do you know how to get in contact with the support team at Ultimaker?

UM3 design files are open source and you can get them from https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker3. You will need a CAD tool to open the STEP files.

As I know, UM S5 isn't open source yet. But I believe the basic structures are the same.

For local support team, I think you have to go through resellers. You can find resellers in your country from https://ultimaker.com/resellers.

I looked into the 3D model of UM3 and I found this part, -I'll think is the faulty part in your printer.

What I found was a large text file with the name: 2116-H.STEP

Should I register, to download?

Yep. You can save it with this name. It's a standardized format, nearly every CAD program can import it.

BTW: there's a (green) link on the GitHub page to download the whole repository as a zip-Archive. That's probably easier than grabbing each file separately.
