Sorry, but  https://support.makerbot.com/s/topic/0TO5b000000Q4wVGAS/using-ultimaker-cura

does not explain "Cura Settings".  There is evidently no general support document available that explains the hundreds of Cura setting available.  I did find a somewhat helpful site here that briefly covers some aspects of Cura: https://makerspace.ccny.cuny.edu/assets/pages/Ultimaker_Cura.pdf  but not a comprehensive user manual.  The best info I've found so far is here: https://all3dp.com/1/cura-tutorial-software-slicer-cura-3d/ which is about the most in-depth help on Cura I've found.

Cheers,

Ed Newbold

Several users already (kind of) reported the situation but seems that either the old link is not recoverable neither the contents or I don't know why a new link is not provided!

Yeh, that link covers only a few basic concepts about 3D printing and the software. Far from an in depth thorough guide on all the settings, as you've just said.

I'll take a look at those sites and see what else can I learn about some of the settings I'm still not sure about!

hi everybody. not sure if i accidently changed something or its just default to cura 5.3.0. i want to change my nozzle size and i go to printer settings in extruder tab and theres no box to enter diameter for nozzle size. i watch plenty of videos and they clearly show that option but i have no option. can someone please help. btw if it was taken out cause the only changes are made in the quality section and they just have you change the line width and such manually thats fine i guess just want some clarification. thanks again.**UPDATE** i was trying to search for answers while seeing if i got a response here. seems this is something that was just missed for the ender 3 s1 pro which i have. Im posting this link to the person that i got the information from on how to fix the issue so i have all the nozzle options. https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura/issues/15106

Hello, My library has a UltiMaker 3 D printer, ether a S7 Pro or a S5 Pro  not sure which  so I downloaded the UltiMaker Cura software so I could start to learn, how to do this stuff. For some reason the software and the multiple web sites want me to input my printer! I don't own the 3D Printer, my library does. I just want to learn how to make the files that  the printer will use, so I can print something.

So I come to the Forum, this looks like the place to start but the link to explain the settings is bad. Looks like it has been bad for a while. Cloudflare says it is a connection timed out error code 522. I found a backup copy on archive.org's  wayback machine that can be used until the original link starts working again.

    Original link https://support.ultimaker.com/hc/en-us/sections/360003548619-Print-settings.

So just choose a non-networked printer and it won't ask you lots of questions.  I chose the S5 and it didn't ask me anything else.  Then you can practice slicing.

???  What's this all about?  We're still looking for the site that contains "Cura Settings Explained."  Thank you.

I'm not sure what you are asking as this is a 3 year old topic and unfortunately some of the old links here don't work anymore.  If you can say which link exactly.

If you want some explanations of how to use cura you could start here maybe:

    https://support.makerbot.com/s/topic/0TO5b000000Q4utGAC/ultimaker-cura

    https://support.makerbot.com/s/topic/0TO5b000000Q4w3GAC/cura-print-settings

Which has lots of support articles about cura.

But instead I recommend you watch some youtube videos about cura.  Maybe search on youtube for "intro to cura" or something similar.  This will give you quite a few videos to choose from - I'm sure they are all pretty decent.

There is also a plugin for cura (get it in the market place - it's free - in the top right corner of cura) that has very very good detailed explanations for each of the 500 or so settings.  Most explanations have pictures to help explain.

I'm asking precisely BECAUSE "this is a 3 year old topic and unfortunately some of the old links here don't work anymore."  Perhaps the links should be updated every now and then, like at least once per year?

"If you want some explanations of how to use cura you could start here maybe:

    https://support.makerbot.com/s/topic/0TO5b000000Q4utGAC/ultimaker-cura"

This is exactly why I asked about the link to begin with.  THANK YOU.

Regarding youtube, is that now your goto "support channel"?  Naw, I don't think so, becuase every youtube video regarding Cura slicer has the writer's personal OPINIONS in them; not factual statements from Ultimaker Cura.  Many times the information presented is either incorrect or outdated (too).  That's it for now.  Thanks for your time.

Well the plugin is from an Ultimaker employee.  One who is a software engineer who works on Cura.  Most people agree it's the best reference for what all the settings do.

Yes a lot of old links have now switch to  support.makerbot.com  and old support.ultimaker.com redirects you to a salesforce page.

The new updated link until the next mergers and acquisitions in 3D printing :

Maybe it's a good idea to make a new thread with actual links in the first post including a link to this thread and then replace this pinned thread with the new one.

It is quite a shame that no one from UltiMaker is able to redirect these old support links automatically to to their new locations or even edit the first posting with new links. I saw these kind of question since starting early this year over and over again.

Regarding the link https://support.makerbot.com/s/topic/0TO5b000000Q4utGAC/ultimaker-cura, this shows greatly how support is disqualifying the own effort. This page was maybe meant as an useful entry point but a visitor only understand there are no articles available. Clicking the links above (e.g. Cura print settings) will guide the user to the correct place but most users don't get this because they where told "no articles found".

    SupportUltiMaker.thumb.PNG.6b457c9c674b8cb8af5fe5d9c9e913a5.PNG

A "slick" remark like "Hey here is something to find if you click on the menu above" would explain a lot for a user who is looking for help and information.

Maybe one of the now responsible persons of these support pages is able at least to place a helpful instruction text on that page and hide this not helpful stupid text.

And please go over the complete menu structure from beginning (https://support.makerbot.com/s/) to the last element in the structure as there are more of these quirks.

@MariMakes, maybe you can push this a little bit? 🙂

Looking on your screenshot I guess you are already in the menu path  -->Software -->UltiMaker Cura -->Cura print  settings

    SupportUltiMaker2.thumb.PNG.2e80c5561c007cb4fc3e577bf39f3b20.PNG

Go one step back and click on top left link Software and then start again with Ultimaker Cura

Or the other route via top main menu: -->Home -->Software --> UltiMaker Cura

    This is what I meant.

When I follow the link given in the original post, it takes me here:

            https://support.ultimaker.com/s/login/?ec=302&inst=5b&startURL=%2Fhc%2Fen-us%2Fsections%2F360003548619-Print-settings

That page demands a login, even though I am already logged into my Ultimaker account to access the forum. However, my Ultimaker login credentials don't work. So it seems to be asking for some credentials other than my Ultimaker login. But, there is no "create a login here" link on the page either. How do I get access to this content?

    @mlitzkow,

Do not use the links from the first post as they are outdated since end of last year. Pls. read the last 6 posts above your post and you will find the correct links.

Hello there, do you also love Cura but sometimes get lost in all its beautiful settings?

    In our knowledgebase on Ultimaker.com we have dedicated many articles explaining how those settings work. So if you find yourself wondering how a certain setting works or if you just want to learn more about what Cura can do, visit this link;

    Cura settings explained.

We put a lot of effort in writing these guides so let us know what you think! Looking forward to hear from you!

It takes me to a login page with the header 'Salesforce' (URL: https://support.ultimaker.com/s/login/....) and asking me for a login. I used my Ultimaker login credentials but it's not working. What did I do wrong here? Please advise. Thanks

I remember seeing all the settings information in popups in the cura program before. Just installed the program and the popups are much shorter and only text. Is there a setting for this? Or are they removed in newer versions? Or is my mind playing tricks on me ?

There is a plugin in the MarketPlace called "Settings Guide" that provides the full explanations with pictures and arrows explaining each one.

So go to the MarketPlace and install it, quit Cura, and when you restart it should give you the expanded explanations when you hover over a setting.

      • S-Line Firmware 8.3.0 was released Nov. 20th on the "Latest" firmware branch.
(Sorry, was out of office when this released)

        This update is for...
        All UltiMaker S series
        New features

Temperature status. During print preparation, the temperatures of the print cores and build plate will be shown on the display. This gives a better indication of the progress and remaining wait time. Save log files in paused state. It is now possible to save the printer's log files to USB if the currently active print job is paused. Previously, the Dump logs to USB option was only enabled if the printer was in idle state. Confirm print removal via Digital Factory. If the printer is connected to the Digital Factory, it is now possible to confirm the removal of a previous print job via the Digital Factory interface. This is useful in situations where the build plate is clear, but the operator forgot to select Confirm removal on the printer’s display. Visit this page for more information about this feature.
