It really does depend on what you want to make,
I found the 20cm height is just too short for the prints I wanted to make, so I extended mine,
it's not that I print high objects all the time, but with the extra height, you can create some impressive prints 
and don't forget that added height, there is also added print times
Slightly taller side panels, and a longer Z screw. Can't be that much more to produce. Wonder how much more they'll charge?
Oh never mind, I see that it's $530 more.

4 more inches in height may be ideal for some models, remember also that the length of the object can be printed as the height simply by rotating the object. The depth and width of the UM2 Extended are equal to the UM2. I was very excited about the larger size when I saw it at Dynamism (I am in the process of buying a second UM2) but when I came to the realization that the height was the only thing that was increased I felt less impressed to get it as a second printer. Now to tell you the truth, if it was my first printer that is what I would have gotten, delivery date is in April, I can't wait that long anyway. Lastly, I am very happy with my UM2 and Dynamism. If they are, I still plan on purchasing the UM2ext to augment my trustworthy UM Original, which still clobbers any Makerbot model, past to present. I've spoken to people from Stratasys and they universally revile the MB. Everytime I visit my regional Stratasy vendor, the MB they have in their showroom is always in the same place--shoved into the far corner with a layer of dust on top.
What I would like to know is where is the dual extruder?
As already posted a few times before; Dont count on it any time soon. We wont release a half done product. Not for the um2 (as its more focussed on the not tinkerer people). The second nozle simply adds a huge failure rate to your prints (if its cold, it knocks prints over, if its hot it messes with them due to heat, etc).

I have a um2 currently and was going to purchase a um2 extended as well as I thought the x and y axis were also going to be larger. My question at this point since the dual extrusion is not going to happen with these printers is what is actually going to be different other then z axis height? Will there be an improved feeder with the release of the um2 extended ? Any information anyone can provide on the specs and differences is greatly appreciated.

Depends what you will be printing. I have a UM2 and have never required extra height. So it could be a waist of money getting the extended. But other people want that extra height to print taller items.
It all come down to what you will use it for.
