  1. Hi Adam Welcome to the family!
  2. I put it on a cake decorators turntable, allows the filament to untwist when the tension builds. Did have a batch with a break in it so now check it carefully before printing. Would also recommend colorfabbb great quality and still prefer it being on a spool.
  3. Count me in for the print show and tct.
  4. Hi Chris Welcome to the forum
  5. Hi Sander Have you closed the survey?
  6. Netfabb basic worked great and after sorting the orientation it printed great.
  7. Jonny thanks for the great list, chopmeister's blocks have made a massive difference quieter and it seems more accurate. One thing I did notice was the small belt pulleys where jamming against the wooden case due to the play in the rods. Should there not be a spacer between the bearing and the pulley? ( I bought it secondhand so something could be missing )
  8. I have used sketchup for 6yrs but for architectural visualisation . Most of the plugins are free and looking on sketchucation will help. For 3d printing I use solid inspector, remove inner faces and export .stl. I get a lot of models off students to print and nothing will prepare you for how bad somebody can model!!!
  9. After trying to find the best direction, I eventually came up with this. The print was faultless and the new style (well really the old old one) support structure worked great and was easy to remove.
  10. Cool, thanks for the info the client is happy to glue it together, but I fancy looking at fusion 360.
  11. Thanks Harold I only have the .stl at the moment, cannot get hold of the solidworks file till Tuesday.
  12. Hi Been supplied an .stl to print but it is 300mm long, so how do i split it in half. The original file was created in solidworks which i don't have. Can it be done easily in meshlab / meshmixer?
  13. Trying to print a scale architectural model for a student, the problem is the supports they have designed come out at .3mm when scaled at 1:500. In cura they don't show up on the layers preview. So what is the thinnest you can print something that looks like trellis ?
  14. I was having a load of trouble with it till I bought a cake decorators turn table, which lets it unroll every time the tension builds up from laying it flat, now regularly do 24 hr prints with no problems.
  15. My votes for the David Scanner, I have had the kinect and now the carmine 1.09 which is a big leap in quality with the reading glasses hack. But the David scanner is the only one I have seen with true high res output and a not ridiculous price. Already saving for the David Scanner SLS 2. The sense is a carmine in nice box so don't expect too much.
  16. So where are you in the Midlands ? I am in Lichfield. Might be worth us seeing if we can put together a mini meetup, there must be more 3d printers in the area. You on 3d hubs? we need more printers
  17. Skint sounds good, just need to keep our eyes open for the next one.
  18. Hi David Glad to see another ultimaker has landed in the UK. They do take some tweaking to get the best out of them and my um1 had a steep learning curve but I just love what I can now get it to do. You will find this forum to be the most helpful bunch of guys with incredible experience.
  19. Nicolinux how did you get on with Designworks? I get supplied sketchup files from Architects and exporting as .stl often produces totally unprintable models. I can fix them but too time consuming.
  20. Would love to build me own, but with so many options where do you start? Linking it into the ultimaker seems the best way but does anybody have a definitive shopping list if i want to go down the silicon mat heater option. If it is going to be early part of this year than i will probably wait.
  21. Thanks all for the info, if i try to push the head round whilst the printer is off it is really stiff. I am just printing some Owen's Adjustable Axis Alignment Tools, so will have a go at sorting out after. Hard to say what tension the belts are but definitely not slack. As far as layer thickness, i often use .25 for quick prints and usually find it pretty good, though it depends a lot of what make of filament. Just had sample of colorfabb to compare with faberdashery (great product but seriously, not on a reel!!)
  22. Cheers Owen Just read the link on your YouMagine link about aligning your axis, think mine may well be off. Will print a couple of your axis alignment tools and give it a try.
