  1. Too bad al those apps are so expensive. Good thing that at least sketchup has a free version

    Simplify3D

To return back to the subject at hand I found http://jinschoi.github.io/simplify3d-docs/ that seems to contain a lot of useful info and wanted to share it with you guys
  3. During a pause the head always parks at the front left. I think the idea behind it is twofold: Since something is probably wrong, you need to room on the buildplate to fix things. It is quite possible that the nozzle oozes filament and you really don't want that dripping on top of your model. So while the straight up is not a bad idea, IMO you will hardly encounter situations where this is handy. Perhaps there should be 2 pauses: The regular one where it parks the head. An "I'll be back later but just wait". Here the head could just go up and as a precaution the filament is retracted. Might have to be careful with keeping the nozzle heated and so on. I honestly don't think I'll ever use the 2nd on though.
  4. That was not meant as making fun but as a serious question. If you're on a mac, the double finger drag is a possibility no? If your trackpad is too old and doesn't support multi finger gestures (or you actually don't have one), why not buy their bluetooth one: It really is pretty awesome. Fyi, I've had to stop using mouses after a couple years on a windows pc because of pain in my arm and shoulder. The last 10 years or so on windows I've very happily used one of these: So I really know where you are coming from. To be honest, since I've been using the apple trackpads I haven't had a single problem pain-wise.
  5. Afaik the pause function is firmware related and has little to do with the slicer. The firmware has no idea on what is on the buildplate and will take the most direct path to the front left corner and back to the resume point. Probably bad luck the other piece was in the way but I don't think a lot can be done about that.
  6. @AaronAlai: Where did you buy that clamp and what is it called (with which you are tearing away the support in your second video)? It seems like something very handy and helpful. Awesome stuff btw!
  7. Can't you just double finger drag? I've configured that as scroll and it works everywhere.
  8. gr5 holding control (and all other modifier keys) is pretty much what I tried before posting this topic (I was kinda hoping to be able to avoid the "oh look at the mac with the single mouse button"-jokes ) Control results in moving the workspace, the same as double finger drag. Scrolling (double finger up and down or left/right) is zoom. Left button drag does nothing, except when the object is dragged, then it is moved around. The only rotational response so far are left and right arrow keys and fn+arrow keys to change the view. Changing the camera in height or in terms of Z is something I haven't found yet.
  9. Yeah it is indeed, but to no avail. I'll try to connect an external mouse and see if that makes a difference. Although I really don't plan on using that for anything else, the mouse is heavily limited in functionality compared to a trackpad (no multi finger gestures and so on). Rotating with the arrow keys does work indeed, unfortunately the up/down are defined as zoom keys instead of rotating in Z direction. So left and right only allow me to rotate the XY plane. Ow well.
  10. I'm not using a one button mouse. My mac has a trackpad with can do a right mouse click. Either way, it isn't working for Cura. I know I'm right clicking as I can open context menus everywhere etc. You simply don't need a lot of right clicks on a Mac so perhaps it's linked to something else? Frankly, I've stepped over from windows about 5 years ago (at which time I was making all the same jokes to mac users) but after about 3 days I decided to never go back again and got rid of all my windows devices. Just sayin'
  11. Okay, just send me a DM when the mocking has stopped and a serious answer was posted
  12. Robert, I guess it is... is there an alternative?
  13. Stupid question: how on earth can I rotate the workspace? Found that I can move the platform around with control, zoom in and out as well with the scroll. But rotate... pff I know it can be done because I did it before, but for the love of me can't reproduce it. I'm on a Mac btw, should that make a difference.
  14. Sander I have worked in the game sector for 6 years so I came in contact with 3d modelling a lot, but I have never done it myself before I bought the printer. I always figured that if I'm spending so much money on something, I should at least be able to fully use it.
  15. I came across this and thought it could be useful if you want to start in 3d printing. It's a full guide explaining the basics: Beginners guide to 3D printing:
  16. I have an UM2 and I have created some simple things in Sketchup, but I selected "I am learning" as I don't qualify myself as a full scale modeller (yet)

I contacted them to clear out the "too much retraction"-issue and this is their reply:
  18. Sure, I'm willing to contact them. What information do you need?
  19. I know *of* some fablabs in Belgium, but haven't looked into them. I wouldn't mind participating if there were some events organised in BE I'm even prepared to (help) facilitate should that be helpful.
  20. Looks pretty awesome. Might replace the feeder body with that one, will allow me to get rid of the filament guide under the power cable.
  21. They took a lot of video that evening, I imagine it will take a while to edit it.

3dcase: That is exactly what I am facing as well and the reason I'm sticking to Cura atm.

Yeah you can always change all those settings on the UM2 directly. When I initially installed S3D and set it to UM2 settings it had a multiplier setting of 1.07. I find that multiplier to be really confusing so I put it on 1. But I think you are correct once more, I've overlooked that "Extra restart distance" setting. It is indeed set at -0.13. Will try with that set to 0 as well. It's description does sound like it might be the cause. A big thank you for the input in advance, I hope this solves all of it
  24. So 3 times the same answer... Guess there's little chance that it is something else then?
