  1. Nice model and nice print @fbrc8-erin! I've been developing my post techniques lately to make them more efficient and faster and more consistent. I have also been practicing sculpting full figures and have a lot to learn! trying to sculpt something when you only have one angle is proving very difficult with some things. I need to take some life drawing classes lol. Lips also bother me! This is the result of buying an ultimaker for me, before I had one I couldn't even sculpt or model anything very well. Now I can make almost anything given enough time, the world is my oyster!!! Just curious but how long did that take to print? Im using really old filament now as a test to compare to brand new filament...not drastically different results to be honest!
  2. I'd like to use that generative stuff for shelving or platforms to hold weight. Or a platform holder with multiple weight bearing sections, so you can vary the positioning whilst maintaining optimal strength. Yet another thing on the list of things to do.....
  3. @SteveCox3D Nice quality prints! great polish and cleanup too!! I wish I could cast metal. I've been looking into investment casting, but small scale set ups are difficult to get decent quality from unless you are doing simple shapes. Centrifugal machines do deal with this to some extent but not ideal for all shapes and sizes. Also having a furnace at home for burning out the PLA is a bit of an issue.....Still working on alternative metal option.... in the meantime I'm streamlining my plating process using 3D printed parts to hold all the consumables and create a modular setup that can easily be up or downscaled accordingly and cheaply!!!! Great read. Must investigate this
  4. I also have my machines on vibration reducing pads not that it would help the wear of the motors, but does reduce the transmission of vibration to the surface. Anything to reduce noise then im in.
  5. Thanks, Ill just keep an eye on it, its only on the first couple of layers anyway, but ive heard it often now usually going from top right travels to bottom left as in the video.
  6. I don't feel it needs it on this occasion. and also the time thing. I will try it out, but only where its really needed. this model barely needs it and I like a faster turnaround. I'm also afraid a bit. I have a ton of time coming up, so ill make something deliberately intersecting with bottom details. also its pretty humid where I am for some reason. I feel @kmanstudios is gonna be getting millions of questions if I plan to use pva a lot. also ive not seen enough 0.06 pva done prints either to verify surface quality questions. Also i can remove the pla support in like 10mins including sanding, so I have my finished model in front of me sooner. .....Also I must say, dutch orange pla/pha filament is printing real nice at stock temps and support is coming off super easy just using regular needle plyers, way easier than transparent pla/pha. looks like a cleaner print too. This print came out really nice by the way, my phone cam doesn't do it justice!!
  7. Here is the eyed one. And its dreaded out of filament layer which was just sitting there for about 8 hours before i restarted it. The hair is also more detailed and actually printed better than the low res hair due to the supports latching on the hairs that stuck out as opposed to the entire flat side making it very easy to remove. This layer line should be a breeze to remove as well, even though id prefer it was not there.
  8. Hi folks, I am getting a weird grinding vibrating sound on my first layers using the S5 and am curious if anyone may know what is causing them? here is the link to video/audio. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tGAf7q9VabycuWXMoyhBigwqtrMolPmD/view?usp=sharing It doesn't sound serious but I'm always keen to hear opinions! M
  9. I've badly damaged my UM2 print head and grinder the hell out of the belt as it tried to move the head which was blocked and skipped loads of belt treads. It made the head wobble a bit and I've heard all sorts of sounds through long and short periods. If it prints well don't worry about it. I have an S5 and its making a weird sound on the first or second layer also but it prints fine, so Im also at a loss. if I don't see degradation then surly it can't be that bad. I also have a bit of belt dust on the top of my motors, but it hasn't changed in years so I assume its OK. I know how you feel about weird sounds and squeaking and grinding and whatever. I hate all those sounds too! id say clean everything up as much as you can and if you can't see any damage or issues anywhere then just ride it out. Or just wait for it to wear whatever is causing it down. ...or try to pinpoint the exactly where its coming from....
  10. Can be dust in the belts. I overheard it somewhere, not sure if you can brush clean the underside easily though without removing them that is?
  11. Thanks, I think it came out ok, the print stopped at 99% but i think thats a scaling issue on my behalf, and the hair in higher resolution actually looks really good! I had a weird layer shift unfortunately after running out of material early on and 8 hours later the damage was done as the material cooled already, i just replaced it but hopefully ill be able to sand it out. Ill post pics when I get back.
  12. Try some sewing oil btw! Clean up the rods from dust and grime and lube them up again. I now do it every time for long prints. Just a suggestion.
  13. Its probably my poor modelling. I need to start modelling to scale. Scaling up by 4500% or 7500% seems weird to me. I have bad habits i need to change.
  14. Im on 3.499 still but it did it with the one before that as well. Im thinking either my wacom tablet is causing it or its because my models import in tiny and then i scale them up by 4500%? Maybe that creates weird stuff that cura dont like? But i find it strange its only happened when ive moved objects. Im so scared of getting it i just leave everything in the center now!!! Id love to figure it out onc3 and fof all, possibly the usb transfer or something. Ill try network printing next and deliberately move stuff around. But i dont want to wait 24 hours for each test?
  15. I'm no newbie, but I'm getting this problem now as I used to in the beginning and its only happened when I've moved the object on the build plate in cura. something is wrong there for certain. for me it stopped on a fixable model which is ok. My problem with cura is that if you click on the object you automatically move it by accident if you use a wacom. Alternatively, it could be the wacom that injecting false positioning code? who knows, but i forgot to rotate this one to its default position and it failed at 99%. all my objects are within build plate volume. i ran out of filament on this one too, but i doubt that's got anything to do with it. i'd like this to be fixed. ill try network next when i move the object.
  16. I had squeeky noises on occasion, just rode them out. give it a few days and see if its still there. its fine now.
  17. Sand it down and put a touch of moisturiser on it if it goes lighter. Colorfabb sands quite well not sure what filament you are using?
  18. ...in the meantime here is a censored bust, just in case anyone was offended, re-touched sculpted scan data and I had no photos of the back so I just left it plain, and chopped the arms of for statue effect. For the life of me this one just wouldn't polish anymore than this I spend ages and loads of compound and cloths to no avail, the copper grain was just too coarse to smoothly polish (a result of a too high current!). It was also a sign to say goodbye to my solution and a highlight that surface quality massively impacts the ability to plate and the final outcome....which actually turned out ok, I wish I could post a few more models which turned out great but they are extremely graphic close ups so theres no way and too many eyebrows would be raised!!.
  19. Ok heres the acetoned version.. Primered version will follow. then plated...and then....who knows. Im getting bored of plating now and have fallen into the trap of doing the same thing over and over, I want to try something new, so may very well try the patina paints on this one... perhaps a nickel patina? who knows?
  20. Im not sure yet. I\ve just bought more plating solution because I had a whole lot of problems with the last one being contaminated with bad copper and the wrong kind of water! If I plate this it will be one of the largest thing I've plated volume wise, apart from the gigeresque thing I did a while back. Gonna acetone it now. It cleaned up real nice with just a scalpel and a touch of 240 sandpaper on a few spots, took about 10mins. I fear the new one with the more detailed hair may actually come out worse, this one is definitely good enough, i was being overly paranoid.
  21. ....and we are done!! Ive already slapped on the new eyed version which will be done tomorrow morning! Very happy here. Minimal cleanup needed.
  22. OK @geert_2 you convinced me, but I'm just gonna do my own eyes, I'm not aiming for an out and out clone, just an emotive feel..... with eyes now.
  23. Thanks, I thought about leaning it back but a little sand under the chin should be fine and i want it in this position to plate. And the eyes.....ill tried once but its harder than it appears and hard to get right from all angles. Model will be finished by morning! Yay!
