  1. As for weight, do not quote me on this one, but I think the UM-Orignal was around 8kg while the UM2 is around 10-12kg (that's how heavy they feel, I've not weighted them) The direct drive makes the machine very silent and adds less components, so less to go wrong.
  2. Blast from the past! Using Cura is recommended. But Skeinforge in RepG usually had this issue when "dimension" was disabled.
  3. Also, out of curiosity, that the Electronics looks like a knockoff. Curious where you got it from. The Arduino also looks odd, as it does not say "Made in Italy" (something seen on all real Arduino's) So could be shady build quality electronics.
  4. Well, it says 1.5.4 on the board. And the firmware still works fine with the 1.5.4 boards (which are a quite common version, I have one at home and 3 in machines in our local FabLab) Did you try programming the Arduino without the shield connected?
  5. Building with cygwin causes a dependency on sygwin which the GUI does not satisfy, you might be able to copy DLLs around to fix this. But the CuraEngine in Cura is build with mingw32 (specificly the mingw32 in CodeBlocks 12.11) Note that there is a refactoring branch for the engine, I'm cleaning up the code there and including a new version of clipper.
  6. ... It's blue? Wondering where you got it from.... because that's not an official UM board. The 1.5.4 electronics where green, have "ultimaker.com" on the (and a few other things), the temperature sensor connectors are the wrong type, and the steppers do not have cooling-ribs. There are also some other colored wires that are not standard UM. Anyhow, if there is a black Arduino on there from DFRobot, then your Arduino is broken. Very early Ultimakers had those and I have not seen a single one of those Arduino still working this day. Else, pull off the Arduino and check if you can program it like that. You could also try the ISP route, but if the normal bootloader no longer works then a big chance that the ISP route won't do you any good.
  7. Default firmware is at 250000 baud, but the problem could be hardware related, I've seen the above happen with a bad Arduino. I see a "operational" state in your log, which can only happen if it gets a proper temperature reading from the machine, which kinda rules out a baudrate problem.
  8. (Small extra comment on the USB printing. If you select the UM2 in Cura, it defaults to "never USB print". As we found USB printing to be too unreliable for the UM2 target audience)
  9. We're getting more experienced in this and how to ramp up production. But, work on the UM-Original heated bed has not started yet. We first had to solve an issue where the heated-bed connector was not properly secured on the UM2 which caused lose connections. (Issue with new production machines, the 5 sold in NY do not have this issue as they where hand soldered) I have all kinds of tiny firmware stuff to fix, as well as finally finishing most of the Cura work for the UM2. I'll keep you posted.
  10. From the specs: https://github.com/Ultimaker/UltimakerOriginal/tree/master/1002_Front_Panel Birch Plywood.
  11. The new support material uses a lot less material, this was one of the important things that changed. It's also easier to dissolve, due to the more open structure.
  12. He shared his trick with me. I'm not telling how, but it is done without any hacking of GCode. Just using basic Cura.
  13. Oui, mais pas pour la prochaine version. Les gens ont contribué d'une traduction française, mais il a besoin de contrôle de qualité. J'ai aussi des traductions allemand, néerlandais, espagnol et polonais. (If you are talking French, you can expect google-translated replies, if you are lucky) I will make a new multi-language beta for people to review the translations.
  14. The auto-serial-port detection tries to find an Arduino Mega2560 bootloader. It might not find that for some reason, you could set the serial port from AUTO to ttyACM0, might help, this also sets longer timeouts on a few things (helps with none-Ultimaker hardware seen in RepRaps)
  15. The multi-language problem is known and I fixed it for the next version. For windows there is an RC1 now. For Mac I'm building and testing it (we noticed an odd problem opening the machine settings window on Mac)
  16. Cura should give an error log if it failes to connect. This might provide an insight into why it's not working.
  17. On windows it looks for removable storage devices. On Mac it looks specifically for SD card readers. On Linux it used to use /media/* and just use any directory found there. But it has been patched to check if they are mount points, it also looks in /media/USERNAME/* The code can be found in Cura/util/removableStorage.py, around line 120 the Linux code can be found.
  18. The problem is that there is one department (of 4 people) called "sales&support", who do both the marketing and the support tasks. As they all went on trips to promote the UM2 there is little time left for support. I'm not blaming the individuals for this. But I think it was a bad decision in combination with knowing that the new shop was launched early, and would most likely cause some issues. We have a company wide meeting very soon about the launch of the UM2. And oh boy, I'm looking forward to that. (And yes, the phone support people are friendly and helpful. But the phone is only manned during dutch office hours, which can be problematic for US people)
  19. Ah, ok, yes, that one is fixed in the 13.10 multi-language version. (Which has a bug causing it to default to system language when you select english) I've uploaded a 13.10-RC1, this should fix the bug. This RC does not allow language selection as we do not find the translations up the quality needed for a release.
  20. I can confirm that my cat has received lots of petting during the development of the UM2. (I do some of my best thinking work while petting my cat)
  21. The support team was at the MakerFair in Rome. Not really a decision I stand behind seeing that they have quite a backlog of support tickets. Which makes the reply time quite long. @Chirality: I managed to talk to the website dev, he told me your payment was not received and rejected at our CC supplier (he specifically looked up your case, as he found it odd, as they where verifying all payments). I recommend double checking at your credit card company.
  22. Not known by me. Can you check the output.txt in the cura installation folder, just copy the whole contents and post it here. Should help in diagnosing the problem.
  23. 250000 baud is a problem on Linux. I added a patch to the latest git version of Cura which might help, but I have not had reports that it works. You can install the 115200 baudrate firmware, this should fix the connecting problem. It installs as default firmware if you run on linux. (And the patch should work. PySerial is at version 2.6, but your Python version is 2.7, as Cura needs python 2.7)
  24. You can remove the glass plate, the front clips can be opened up (turn them sidewards) and then you can slide the plate out. The aluminum plate under that is the heated platform. It could be removed after removing the glass plate by unscrewing the 3 leveling screws. However putting it back in can be a bit of a pain, and you need to level again if you take this out. As for the Z platform itself. It's a thick plate with flanged bearing screwed on them. You can see an early prototype here: http://daid.eu/~daid/IMG_20130930_085809.small.jpg (this is a prototype machine, it has lots of odd bits and pieces that you cannot see on the photo. It's by no means an indication that we will add this bed to the UM-Original!)
