  1. Personally I will say follow the instructions and you will not go wrong; that includes measuring very carefully, to the instructions, the volumes you mix together. Interesting comment from @phantom on temperature; I have always applied it in a room with a minimum temp. of 20c. I wonder what PLA you are using as I have never experienced your problem; I am just wondering if you are using a cheap PLA which is leaving some residue on the finish. I think this is down to experience to get it right - On my first few attempts I was suffering on runs on non-horizontal surfaces (good finish where it did not run though)so I gradually loaded the brush with less XTC 3D until I got to a point where I did not get runs. I certainly would not apply any thinner to the mix - not in the instructions! - but how much you load your brush may have an impact and of course is a personal decision, so one man's thin may not be another man's thin. Also the type and quality of the foam brush will potentially have an impact.
  2. Hi @ahoeben, ok I am confused. Surely what @engr wants is correct. Why does Cura print material 1 and then material 2 without priming the 2nd nozzle - and then prime nozzle 2 when you are going to prime and print material 1 next?? It makes no sense to me.
  3. Hi @SandervG may I add my support to this point. This has been bugging me and lol I have just seen this thread. For me it makes the forum almost unusable if you are trying to catch up on posts - sometimes I access the forum every day and sometimes I stay off for a while - nothing to do with Ultimate, just my acquired practice to get off the web and have a life! Personally I think this is so important that every needed developer should be taken off 2.5 project or whatever and get this fixed - I do not have the time or inclination to start modifying URLs to get the Forum working when that should be a given.
  4. Hmn, I must say I was thinking the same as @neotko, although your first layer is perfect.... Out if interest, how many layers does the flat surface have and what layer heights are you using for first and subsequent layers?
  5. To my eyes the Smooth polymer does not look astonishingly good, good yes; difficult to truly assess without knowing layer resolution. I assume that a good PLA print could be put in the Polisher and a similar polished finish produced. Or is there something in the Smooth polymer that reacts better with the Alcohol?
  6. Ooh is Slic3r worth revisiting? I have not used it for several years. I have a job coming up where this would be very useful but do not really want to shell out 150usd for S3D without a trial.
  7. Hi @Nicolinux what OS are you using, I am Windows10
  8. Thanks guys. @rowiac yes I have seen it on Ebay in th east but the ones I have seen are expensive, I just want a little 7 1/2 oz tube with free/small delivery, not a 6 pack of 6lb tins!! which I did subsequently find in the UK. LOL just checked out the Superlube and not only is it available on Amazon UK it is what I bought last time!! Thanks for the reminder, case closed whether it be in the garage or I buy again8)
  9. Sorry but I not know. The A4 was circa 3,500 GBP (before Brexit of course 8))but the A2 is considerably upgraded and is of course bigger. Their stuff is all CNC milled and turned but if you are wanting to run a business with it, apart from the glass, fans and belts, it is all steel and alloys with attached longevity and reliability and worth the investment. Only suitable for wealthy hobbyists
  10. The 3ntr A2 is 19.5*14 with 24 Z height. It has 3 extruders, an option for at least a 4th, auto levelling and all extruders are water cooled. I have used the A4 model for 3 years and can heartily recommend the brand
  11. Just found some marine lubricant with Teflon, would that be good? My only concern is that it will be designed for more heavier use like prop shafts and drive shaft splines.
  12. Just re-oiling and greasing the printer. I went into the garage to find some grease but cannot recall which one I used last time. I vaguely remember that I got grease (probably silicone) with PTFE for the z screw. What should I use. I cannot fine the green Magnalube anywhere in the UK.
  13. Are you using "Other" printers (I think, I do not have Cura on this laptop) which has a list of 3rd party printers OR are you using "Customised" printers and creating one from nothing? My problem is with "Customised" printers.
  14. Hi @SandervG, well having just given you the answer I got the dreaded server 500 error so have had to type it again, grrrrgh Err as it says in the first sentence of my post, Windows10!!! It seems to be forum related. I just signed on to Ultimaker.com, selected Community, then selected one of the picture frames at the top for a posting and got a blank screen. I normally join the forum by selecting an email notification which now always gives a blank screen. I then signed onto Ultimaker.com again, selected Community, selected Forums, selected Tips and Tricks which displayed a list of postings as normal, selected a posting and again got a blank screen. Just to be clear, for me this only happens with IE11 and has been the case for several weeks (a month?). Last week I got a new laptop with new Windows and IE11, on an HP laptop not my original Lenovo and the problem persists, i.e. I do not think the problem is at my end.
  15. Well the blue one looks OK and is PLA so no surprises there. I personally never found nylon easy to print. The black and probably the clear are suffering under extrusion and the black looks OK to start with, so it is probably not settings like temperature and speed - most probably a feed problem. Your filament could be sticking on the reel or in the Bowden. There could be a blockage in the extruder assembly. Your filament drive gear could be worn or not adjusted properly. Personally I would move over to PLA and see if you can get a series of good results confirming the printer is all OK etc and only then turn your focus to the other materials.
  16. Lol I would never trust Google; Firefox is OK but imho IEs interface is more polished, Don't know opera I thought is was Mac software. Anyway for a lot of us IE11 is the best Windows browser out there so Ultimaker ought to work with it!!
  17. Lol yes, I keep getting iritated by getting excited over some new Ultimaker news only to find another bunch of problems!
  18. This worked in 2.3and 15.n and 14.n, did I use 13.n, think so, but does not work in2.4 When you create a customised printer definition and enter in all the settings and start/end gcode it is all saved. If you modify any of the settings they are saved BUT if you modify the start gcode the changes are NOT saved and so do not appear in the generated gcode
  19. You will find PLA so much easier to print than ABS and nGen is just as easy as PLA, plus it handles hotter temps and for me does stick to the bed better (PLA is great for sticking but nGen just sticks better). A part I did for inside the car cabin warped with PLA but has been fine so far with nGen. You will want 240-245 minimum; people have different views but so far I have found no difference between 0% fan and 40-50% fan
  20. Why are all these problem posts which have nothing at all to do with Ultimaker news being continually posted here. Can people stop doing it, or if it is a bug then apologies to you and can Ultimaker fix it. It has been going on for so long I forget how long.
  21. ...post corrected, it should have said it DID work with 2.3
  22. A month, or 2, back the site stopped working with Windows 10/IE 11. This may have coincided with 2.4 beta, I cannot be sure - it certainly did work with 2.3 You can sign on and access the notification list but on selecting a topic al you get is a blank page displayed. It does work with Edge but I refuse to use that rubbish so I installed Firefox and it works with that. But it is a real pain having to use two browsers to access the Web.
  23. Thank you @SandervG, listening and acting can only win you friends and success I must arrange for you to have a chat with the First Minister of Scotland.
  24. Just to note that the suggestion to rotate 180 was just that, not to use supports also.
