  1. I'm doing a little "thinking out loud" and debating whether to upgrade my existing Ultimaker to the UMO+ (heated build plate + electronics updates) or the Ultimaker 2. The financial side of my brain is tempted by upgrading to the heated build plate offered by the upgrade option. It isn't a terribly difficult upgrade to install based on the documentation I have seen. And the heated platform would give me the ability to use some of the impressive ColorFabb XT materials However I keep looking at the Ultimaker 2, wishing I had bought that all along (it came out 10 days after I bought my kit, non-refundable!). If I go with the Ultimaker 2, I would go for the Extended Size since there are some larger sized prints I would like to print. Another factor that has me leaning to the U2 is the noise my Ultimaker makes while printing. It works well but they do make a lot of noise doing so! (Mostly from the extruder feeder) The printer resides in the basement. It was too noisy for my sleep! As I re-read this, I think I may have answered my own question!
  2. The bug where it would try to heat the bed if it wasn't manually set to zero? Yes. Yes, that's the one! The download page refers Ultimaker Original owners to a different version for firmware. I'm struggling to find documentation (just executables/setup) on what is in each version (change history/notes)? I'd like to know if I am current with firmware updates to my Ultimaker Original.
  3. Was the build plate temperature bug in the UMO fixed? Or do we still need to do the manual fix? Thanks!
  4. Same here. Gee, and I thought she only loved me. (Printed broken heart)
  5. I'm getting spam messages in my Private Messages here. Please let me know whom to report this to. There's no means to flag a message as spam, from what I could see in the editor
  6. As an Ultimaker Original owner, who has had some struggles along the way, my advice would be the Ultimaker 2. Heated built plate, many improvements over the original (quieter!) and much more.
  7. Good tips....I'll try slower and if i can get the extruder to play nice under 200C
  8. Hi I was reviewing some Tips and Tricks and have a few questions. I've been lowering my print temperature to about 200-208C and keeping the print speed at 45-50. (travel speed 150). I'm still seeing a lot of stringing, especially on prints that have multiple objects. I am printing with Ultimaker PLA blue (2.85mm) I seem to have trouble with extruding material if I go below 200, thus why I am finding myself in the 208 C range Extraction is enabled. No heated bed plate Using the 15.06 version of CURA Should I print faster and hotter? Say 220C and double the print speed to 100? Print one object at a time? I'd try lower and slower but, again, trouble extruding when i go lower in temp Thanks!
  9. As usual....you nailed it. Rush it out the door by THIS date instead of releasing when the product in shambles. Not the sort of attention you want to garner (rushed work versus quality).
  10. Check the "Bed Temperature" checkbox in Machine settings and set the value to 0 degrees in Advanced. It will not insert the M190 line into your .gcode that way. Thank you!
  11. New version has problems Set to Ultimaker Original I see in the advanced settings Heated Bed unchecked. Load model, set my usual settings. Put SD Card in Ultimaker Original and sits at the "Heating Bed" prompt. Not good.
  12. Okay tried it out....despite the settings being Ultimaker Original and No Heated Bed, if you go to use this, the Ultimaker Original sits at "Heating bed". Umm, you guys test this stuff, right?
  13. I see it mentions "Ultimaker Original users who use the 'Configuration Wizard' and 'Bed Leveling Wizard' are essentially directed to stick with 15.04. Why? Is the UM Original being abandoned? I am guessing that those of us with UM Originals can use this new CURA for slicing and printing?
  14. I've had a few emails from USA support so hoping that's fruitful. I do have a spare Bowden tube and collet from the dual extruder upgrade kit...so I have some parts available if I need to use them Just hate to use the time to do that and still have the same issue Pictures of...? Where the Bowden is gripped by the collet? I can do that
  15. I'm really following out of love with Ultimaker. I just posted a large update to this thread, hit Post Comment and its gone. Anyways.... Took print nozzle off using the steps mentioned in the video. Indeed a very clogged print head. Probed around the opening of the heater block, more plastic all the way up to the coupler. Removed all of that as best i could. I had a spare nozzle since I had the dual extruder upgrade I never used. Installed that. Removed the cursed Ultimaker Silver Grey PLA and installed some new PLA Pro Black Started with get black PLA oozing Thought it best to do a small test print, using the Ultimaker robot. Bowden tube is sliding off the coupler 45 seconds into printing. I have no idea why this picture is insisting on displaying sideways. Another Ultimaker item that wont work right for me I'm beyond frustrated with this printer, its been this way for two years. Constant troubles with the Bowden tube popping off on any prints over an hour and now its down to less than a minute.
  16. Regarding the Bowden tube popping out....I see the Thingiverse item and I recall some had more troubles using that. I wonder...and this may require a support request, is there a better solution? As to the clogged tip, once off...and if it is indeed clogged, asides heating it up on the stove...I'm hesitant to poke and jab at the insides. Would that do more damage than good? Not sure how rugged these nozzles are. On the other hand...I bought the dual extruder option, so if I search through my parts, may have a spare nozzle after all
  17. So I tried to do a large print and left my printer un attended Came back 4 hours later and I was greeted to a large pile of PLA dangling off the front of the machine, Bowden tube popped off and a very incomplete print. (*Deep breath* Bowden tube popping off has been a consistent problem with my Ultimaker, which has given me great pause about buying any other Ultimaker product. Outside of small parts, I have yet to get a large print accomplished.) Since the forum changed, I found a few threads on cleaning and suggested ways to prevent clogs between material changes on the Ultimaker 2. But none for the Ultimaker Original I heated the nozzled to 225C and it was streaming out some brown (burnt) Ultimaker Silver Grey PLA. It has since stopped doing so and now nothing is coming out. Help I am hoping I do not have to do surgery to this thing and dismantle it too much to get it working again. And I would love to hear some tips on getting this thing to print reliably
  18. Well, why not innovate and improve, even if the leveling is "so easy"? I know I dislike the need to calibrate the bed before every print...its a necessary evil for good prints tho. But, again, just an idea on something that can improve the ease of printing for people like me
  19. Just curious is this is on the To Do list for Ultimaker at some point? With all the sensors available to measure distance (ultrasonic,IR, laser, etc), such a feature might help make printing that much easier for so many (like me!) Thanks!
  20. http://www.cnet.com/products/ultimaker-2-3d-printer/ He makes a lot of good points.
  21. I bought my Ultimaker kit (original) and the second extruder option. I've been excited to see dual extruders in action, like other 3D printers have. But in the year or so i have had my kit, I decided to wait on installing it until I saw how it worked for others. Well, I haven't seen anyone post any impressive dual extruder prints. They have all had some issues with "marbling" and other complications. So I am not terribly surprised the Ultimaker 2 ran into problems making it work with the existing hardware. And as others have posted, the company does have a problem with being honest. i got burned early on, buying my Ultimaker kit only to discover the Ultimaker 2 was released 8 days later...which is what I would have really preferred to have. But since I bought a "kit", no refunds. Just a smug "Sorry" and told that's how Apple does things (in how they don't announce when new models come out). While I like my Ultimaker for the prints it can do....I don't think I will be making any future purchases. I enjoy the community support. But the company puzzles me.
  22. I appreciate your thoughtful and open news update. I know the lack of dual extruding isn't going to be popular news item...but glad you addressed it. Even the person who claimed they had dual extrusion working on their Ultimaker 2 has failed to provide pictures or video to back up their claim. So clearly, its very hard to do.
  23. I've tried a few times and Cura just sits there and doesn't build the print time on it I don't know if its a lousy model (perhaps) or there's something wrong in Cura http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:275096 There are two files, one says "repaired" but I can't get that one to do a print time/slice either Thanks! So say we all! =)
