After 2+ days printing I made a ....leg !

Irregular quality from one layer to the next?
xeno replied to rafael-matsunaga's topic in UltiMaker 3D printers
You might also try to put some more weight on the Z-stage, this helped for me -
This is the tallest print I have made so far, printed on my Ultimaker+ at 0.3mm layer height and is 36cm tall it was a test to see if my new Alu Z-platform would move smoothly, as I was getting gaps when it got stuck several times, due to being too light. took around 4 Hours to print.

What does RC in a Dutch technical drawing mean ?
xeno replied to ian's topic in UltiMaker 3D printers
means Reconstructie (Dutch) or reconstruction (Eng) http://www.amsterdam.nl/gemeente/organisatie-diensten/dbi/stelselpedia/bag-index/handboek-inwinnen/brondocumenten/toelichten-codering/ -
Dremel is just a bad tool, it has only two settings, melting plastic fast and insanly- I dont't want to hold it in my hands -fast. I use a Proxxon, it is much better, 1- very good slow speed for plastics , 2- no more special 3.2mm bits 3-quiet !
-
I had the same problem, I had a lot of gaps on tall prints, making the Z-platform more heavy solved it for me.

Well after some bad prints and major overhaul of my Ultimaker+, I finally finished what I wanted to print for a while. I printed the TinTin rocket some time ago, but felt it missed something the rocket exhaust needed some major cleaning as it was covered in strings, and I still have to work out what is causing that. the base is made from 15mm polished perspex. and all the parts are connected with M8 rod for stability. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8108870/IMG_1011s.jpg https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8108870/IMG_1008s.jpg

After some testing it seems the Z-platform is not moving smoothly, maybe there is some junk in there, or my design is just plain wrong then I would have to take drastic measures to make it stable. and also some shaking is also not making is a smooth surface at higher places.

Made my first tall print on my Ultimaker+, it took 30 something hours. it looks ok, but still need to work on the Z-axis, the print has gaps at multiple places. and lots of stringing on the bottom part. overall I'm happy with the result, but it needs some work :-P

After a 30+hour print on my experimental Ultimaker+, I noticed that Cura put some kind of plane or divider into the drawing ? It did not effect the printing as far as I can tell, but still am curious what this is.
-
Hehe no sorry, this is not your TinTin rocket, I drew this myself in Rhino3D, in segments one of my first bigger prints my Ultimaker+ can print up too 400mm in hight !, the rest is just a normal Ultimaker
-
do you mean Cura has a file size limit ? the size easily fits my Ultimaker+, and scaling the object would defeat the purpose of printing it, it is supposed to be a base for my TinTin rocket, and that too is pretty big

I'm trying to print a large object on my Ultimaker+, but Cura doesn't seem to like it, when I press print, the dialogue screen comes up, and the G-code is loading, but soon after it becomes unresponsive in activity monitor, even after 30mins. I tried several things: -several versions of the latest and older of Cura, same problem -printing a small object, works fine -using Cura on faster imac and transferring to print Mac mini, same problem. -just loading the G-Code, same problem. -rebooting, same problem. is it possible that Cura doesn't like objects larger then the normal size of the UM ? or is the G-code the culprit ? here are the files, if someone likes to take a look https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8108870/rocket%20exhaust%20combine%205.gcode https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8108870/rocket%20exhaust%20combine%205.stl thanks

I also think it would not be a great idea, as all the questions regarding UM1 are relevant for the UM2, and vise versa maybe for some technical aspects of the machine you can create a separate thread.

I want to print a C-130 Hercules for remote control flight

Nice to see a fellow R2Builder joining the Ultimaker party

Also same here, using the latest iMac. Help me obi-Dade kenobi !

I find Cura is not far off with printing estimates, I have printed some large objects, and after slicing I get a estimate of, say 40hours, but when I start to print the window gives a much larger estimate like 75Hours, but after around 30mins this goes back down a lot, and I must say that the original estimate is not far off after printing a lot of objects I have a pretty good idea what the total duration will be, and longer print times are more accurate the the short prints.

[Whiny voice] thanks Daid

Don't get me wrong, I love AutoSlicing, but the 20sec stuttering delay when making adjustments is just silly, that is a great example how AutoSlicing COULD work, but try that same trick with a 100MB file, and you won't be so happy I really hope this is just related to the wrong version in the OSX download, and that the latest version works better, or else I will be sticking to the old version
-
as long as Daid doesn't repair the download link for OSX, I don't know what version I have it says 13.06.02 in the header, but after installing the 13.06.03, it stil says 13.06.02 !!

well after a short time with the new Cura, here is my request so far - turn on / off auto slicing - center object on platform on / off - turn on / off auto slicing - turn on / off auto slicing - turn on / off auto slicing did I mention - turn on / off auto slicing (sorry about being a little miffed, not being able to use the new Cura)
-
My god Cura slices really fast, and works great....unless.... you have large files it turns my super duper fast new iMac into a slow 1990s pc ! every - little - adjustment - I - make - I have to wait for the slicer to finish doing its thing, -move the object to the center, wait......20sec. -lay flat on surface............wait 20sec. -rotate it to fit the platform, wait......20sec. -scale to the right size, wait.......20sec. -turn on support, wait......20sec. and so on... it takes 30 minutes just to load the object and have it placed and ready for printing, come on ! how come Daid never though about having an on / off switch ? is there a reason why this is not switchable in the expert setting ? I can understand to make an idiot proof program, but why make it more difficult for us, who use the expert settings. I have to stick with the older version, I rather press "prepare" and get a coffee, then to have to click every 20seconds for half an hour

Oh darn, I got confused with MeshMIXER :???: sorry ! watch this at the 3:36 minute mark http://www.meshmixer.com/download.html I find meshmixer works better them meshlab, and is more easy, all cuts made are always watertight.
-
Why not cut the model in Meshlab, there you can choose of the cut is closed or open.
