  1. I guess a good solid structure is the base of a good printer, so I would want to use the correct parts.... If you'r in the US try getting the parts from http://fbrc8.com/ (the US assembly partner of Ultimaker). I general, to know which part goes where the .step files of the models are the best.... here you find the assembly step for the UM2 and the UMO (yeah the last one should probably not be there...) the DXF files of the panels are also available.... https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2 and the GO https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2Go/tree/master/3D%20model and the extended https://github.com/Ultimaker/Ultimaker2Extended/tree/master/3D%20model The step file assemblies contain the part-numbers, that correspond with the BOM and the pdf/DXF/Step files If you don't have software that loads .step files try Design Spark Mechanical, or Autodesk Fusion 360 (cloud) both are free.
  2. So brave to start from scratch I really needed the arms to be able to add some weight, and adjust the weight front/back till I found a point where the thing walked.... without a bit more weight to the back mine fell over all the time.... So what to do next ? give the poor thing some arms and a head
  3. Still plenty time to mill a bot out of aluminium
  4. just played around a bit with the fuzzy skin using refill pet, to create a diffuser to be used in a lamp.... works pretty nice. The photo is poor because of the frequency of the light.... it's actually nicely diffused....
  5. Actually my reason for wanting machine settings back is not about octoprint.... but more about f.e the ability to change the dimensions of the head..... yes many people still experiment.....
  6. @labern what software do you use? (CAD / CAM) any good tips/sources on feeds and speeds?
  7. totally agree ! for now you can do some of this by changing the .json file ( C:\Program Files\Cura 2.1\resources\machines ) just trial and error to see what works and what not. Made some changes myself that resulted in changes in the GUI, but not functional (set the temp in cura for UM2) For the UM2 the gcode flavour is somewhere around line 70 ....
  8. wow that's some serious piece of equipment ....
  9. ok ok I'll tell you a funny story A guy goes over to his friend's house, rings the bell, and the wife answers. " Hi, is Tony home?" " No, he went to the store." "Well, you mind if I wait?" " No, come in." They sit down and the friend says "You know Nora, you have the greatest breasts I have ever seen. I'd give you a hundred bucks if I could just see one." Nora thinks about this for a second and figures what the hell - a hundred bucks. She opens her robe and shows one. He promptly thanks her and throws a hundred bucks on the table. They sit there a while longer and Chris says "They are so beautiful I've got to see the both of them. I'll give you another hundred bucks if I could just see the both of them together." Nora thinks about this and thinks what the hell, opens her robe, and gives Chris a nice long look. Chris thanks her, throws another hundred bucks on the table, and then says he can't wait any longer and leaves. A while later Tony arrives home and his wife says "You know, your weird friend Chris came over. " Tony thinks about this for a second and says "Well did he drop off the 200 bucks he owes me?"
  10. maybe if you ask nice Carl from 3dsolex.com is willing to help out (@swordriff) he sure knows how to make ptfe's
  11. If you want to print full color on a printed surface it's probably easier to use Aad van der Geest's control of a normal inkjet cartridge; https://ultimaker.com/en/stories/20882-making-a-full-color-inkjet-3d-printer Appart from the funny pen video I'm more interested to see more of foehnsturms new setup ..... he's already teasing us for too long
  12. I think I saw it already at dutch design week in 2014, really like the idea, sure the drone needs to be safe to fly in the city, but the idea f.e. of being able to request an AED from your phone anywhere in the city must be a lifesaver.
  13. Hi Ian, the coffee corner is probably a bit quiet, but I don't think the forum in general is.... though my feeling is it varies a bit day by day.... might also mean people better know how to find help, get better at using google or just have less issues.....
  14. Not a teacher and never used a makerbot. ... but welcome to the forum, I'm sure you'll like your ultimaker.
  15. Looks good... but maybe in 2.1 change the pictures and instructions for the atomic method to be done in a corner and not in the middle of xy..... people are bending there axis with this instruction....
  16. Main thing for me is to ONLY have to click straight below the button without having to move left/right within the drop down as that the main annoyance...
  17. That's what worries me... settings should depend on the material you use... also there's variance in f.e. the temperature readout per printer. Also cloud streaming and USB printing add complexity.... thus more potential issues. There's a reason Ultimaker does not support USB printing.... As for the price.... time will tell if you sell anything for these prices... if the design is very good like the level of f.e. nervous systems... it could work.
  18. hmmm bug... just got the "are you sure you want to navigate away" pop up on pushing "post reply". I choose stay, push "post reply" again, and end up with a double post....
  19. I would also like to keep the "dashboard"
  20. funny thing .... I remember a looonnngggg time ago we where all complaining about the lack of information density Regarding the "community" button just the stuff below the 'community area's' would be enough, the rest does not need to be behind the main button but can be indirect. For the other buttons, I don't like the picture's in the dropdown, it's not useful at all in a menu . Specially because the big pictures are also in different places it makes the menu navigation chaotic. For explore, maybe just stick to, What, Where, How and not put the details in the menu. For "products" just stick to Printers, Software, Materials, Parts,.... and maybe include something like "Where to buy" in this main menu. I think this would be a more logical place than the "buy now" button with the shoppingcart, as you don't have a webshop anymore..... And, finally, the clickable items below a button need to be straight below the button, I find the need to navigate to the side inside the dropdown pretty annoying.
  21. sure mechanically .... but without a wipe tower .... that's a different story
  22. bllaahh I hope this will not become the popular name for this.... hope someone come's up with something else Think I'll call it "outside atomic" for now
