flap, flap, flap ...
I had some concerns as it's not really working symmetrically, but it looks ok.

Well maybe it look strangely but it is really a good idea. i like it:P
Edited by Guestworking on the e3d mount:
Ohh and foensturm, do you have some stp files of the extruder, so i can start making the one drirect drive extruder mount for the right hot end?!

I would be interested. I just got my Nema 8 extruder up and running. You can find the details in your direct drive extruder thread.
Right now my gear box is substantially heavier, primarily due to the much larger worm gear.
Looks like you also moved to 5 mm rod for the gear box axle.

Well, same weight, almost three times the torque and twice as hot (just kidding, but it can get really hot). Besides this it's comparing apples with oranges: 3 mm vs 1.75 mm, 1:40 vs 13:60 gear, Merlin hotend vs. E3D Lite (which E3d says is not that fast). I still have to conduct some extrusion speed tests.
And yes I moved to 5mm, which makes things a little easier.
One thing I didn't expect with the Nema 8 design is that it is way quieter than the UMO stock extruder. I am guessing that is due to the increase in step frequency and decoupling from the wooden frame.

True, I like that very much. Almost silent, just a gentle "beep" on retractions. It's the same with the pancake stepper and the 13:60 gear.

Well then I need to take a look at mine extruder it is the loudest part of al?! But do you have some stp file of the extruder for me? So I can edit them for my E3D mount.
@foehnsturm is the motor that you use the Sanyo Denki SS2421-5041? If so, do you know how the wire colors of it map to the colors/pin out of the UM2 default feeder motors?

A: Yes
B: I used red->red, yellow->blue, orange->black, blue->green to mimic the UMO pattern.

Working on rev3 at the moment which might fit better for your mount (less height). It moves the heavy parts (E3D, stepper) closer to the mounting point.
Thanks!

rev3, trading 15 mn of height for 10 mm width
I really like the design,
But i only miss a extra fan for cooling for the print
Where can i get al the part and the stl files, i really need two for my new printer:D
Edited by Guest... and look at the wiring! ...
looking neat now..
