  1. oooh, nice! It should be relatively easy to make an app with the cura/uranium engine to support all this. Daid also did this for our laser cutter; https://github.com/daid/NinjaKittens2
  2. Oh ye of little faith. We software engineers don't like doing manual things, so we tend to automate everything. This is why we made the Tweak at Z plugin.
  3. It works perfectly on linux, so I'm guessing osx messed something up again that broke this. Wouldn't be the first time.
  4. Switching between ABS & PLA is always difficult. ABS bits get stuck in the nozzle and when printing with PLA they don't get quite hot enough to be pushed out of the nozzle. I usually print at a higher temperature after i've switched from ABS in oder to purge the nozzle. I don't have that much experience with dismantling the hotend, but i'm pretty sure others here can help you with that.
  5. There is no such thing as a "proven" feeder design, not when you take into account that an Ultimaker can be fed with pretty much everything. I do agree that hardware problems should be solved with hardware as much as possible, but in this specific case it's good to also have some (software based) feedback. A more closed loop system should greatly improve the quality of the machine.
  6. I'd suggest waiting a few weeks. The new Cura will be released then.
  7. Manny? I dare to disagree. A few handfull people have recommended the feature, but that is very little compared to other features. All that being said; it's possible to get the um2 working with USB. I've done it a few times. We just won't put time & effort in getting it right. Every extra means of communicating with the machine adds a whole lot of failure points. We try to stick to as few as possible and get them as good as possible. The architecture of the new Cura actually supports printing over USB fairly well, so if you really feel it's that important a pull request is always welcome!
  8. Their default print speed is way slower than the Ultimaker We need to send more moves per second.
  9. Also note that the printer cant print on the bed clips.
  10. I've been toying with that exact idea for some time now. I'm happy to see that they already implemented it so we can see how well it works.
  11. Well, we did announce there would be a new machine this year. But as I have noticed (both as a consumer and one of the people that designs these things) that new machines will have issues, regardless how hard we try to ensure that they don't have em. So if reliability is your thing, buy the um2+. If you want new & awesome stuff (at the possible cost of reliability), wait for the new stuff.
  12. Why don't you use the Cura version that lulzbot ships? That would save you a ton of issues.
  13. The new version will be released soon. I expect that these issues will be fixed there.
  14. I actually strongly disagree with this. Auto calibration is a big gimmick in my opinion (especially for a single nozzle machine). I've re-levelled my bed maybe 4-5 times last year. It seems fairly silly to have an extreme complex feature so you no longer have to do that (This is the same reason why tanks are still manually reloaded; it's actually more reliable) Closing the design is also not quite possible due to patents. Most other 3d printers don't have fully closed machines for exactly that reason. I've only notices the effect of draft with ABS, which is a pretty annoying material to begin with anyway.
  15. The new Cura supports profiles per object. Changing the infill density on a certain height is not possible (unless you cut up the object into multiple and give each object a different set of settings) The tweak at Z plugin is just a post processing plugin, so changing infill is not possible.
  16. I've never worked with that plugin, so I don't know how it works / should work.
  17. I might have understood you incorrectly, but you asked for skipping the infill for bottom/top layer and the solution i gave you is how you do that.
  18. Production wise it's a complete nightmare.

  20. Nope. I can only recommend trying the new version of Cura. It will be in beta soon.
  21. You could just set the infill to 0% (and top/bottom thickness to 0 as well)
  22. It depends on your OS and the version of Cura that you are using. The old Cura for windows was only 32 bit, so the supported size was much smaller. The new Cura is fully 64 bit and i've been able to load models over 250 MB without much issues. Note that adding more resolution won't always increase the print. Some details are just too small for your printer to actually do something with.
  23. The start2.gcode is the startcode that is called for a dual extrusion print. The start.gcode is only called when doing a single extrusion print. I don't quite know what you mean by resetting your printhead. Marlin simply uses an offset; You work in the coordinate system of the primary nozzle onto which it applies the offset.
  24. There is a setting called "Support dual extrusion". Set it to "second extruder"
