Excellent, thank you for discovering and letting us know. I will share this with my colleagues to remove that as a condition so it won't affect anyone else. Have a great evening!

  3. The beta version of Ultimaker Cura 4.9 is here. This release contains a bundle of bug fixes and feature improvements increasing software stability, and further simplifying and streamlining print preparation as you continuously strive for first-time right results.

    What’s new?

The Z-seam is now clearly shown in Preview mode.
This ensures that you will know whether the seam will be sufficiently hidden in the end product. This will also indicate the starting point of the print.

    image.thumb.png.24fa3b4dce1d5dbf18b323374be61413.png

Thanks to BasF0 for contributing to this feature.

“Line type” is now the default color scheme.
When entering the Preview mode, you don’t have to switch manually to line type. This will improve your user experience.

    image.thumb.png.52c4e8378a97c58449a3e09ef417775a.png

    Weight estimation in decimals.
This provides a more detailed idea of the amount of material used – which is especially useful for smaller prints.

    image.thumb.png.88b7ce8f1f34b6d12405630aec154493.png

We added 18 printer definitions for third-party printers. This makes Ultimaker Cura more accessible to you the community users.
    Bug fixes:

    • “Connect top/bottom polygons” setting. We have fixed a bug in which this setting was unintentionally hidden when initial layer bottom layers are set to “concentric”.
    • Ultimaker Cura not slicing. We have fixed a bug causing Ultmaker Cura not to slice a model if one sub-model of a group was below the build plate.
    • Security patch - Fixed a security vulnerability on Windows permitting the openssl library used to launch other programs. Thanks to Xavier Danest for raising this bug.
    •

For more information on new features, bug fixes check out our Github release page, the blog post can be found here

    Download the beta here

And as always, we are really looking forward to your feedback! Let us know what you think in the comments below. Looking forward hearing from you!

Please note this version of Ultimaker Cura is in the beta phase and still under development. Be sure to use the latest stable release if you’re working on an important project.

Succes!

  7. Hi, welcome to the community and congratulations! Do you have any idea what you will be printing or what materials / properties you will be needing? With filament dryer I think you mean the material station? It has much more value than just drying your filament. It allows you to store up to 6 filaments, and it can automatically select the material that matches your print job (when it is loaded). And if material A runs out, and the same material is in B or C, it will automatically load that one.

This could be quite useful, depending on if you aim to do any remote printing, if you will print mostly very large prints or just like the convenience of not having to worry about the end of a spool.

  9. Hi @anti, thank you for your message and welcome to the community. Glad you managed to find a recovery image that worked. If you found an older img that worked, your method was probably fine. Could you share with me via DM what the instructions were you received and which img? That way I can check if you received correct instructions. I would curious to know why the instructions didn't work for you. (But happy that you found your way!)

    Have a great day,

I can't believe you release a firmware with no rollback and still let the printer prompt for an upgrade with no warning about the lack of rollback.

This firmware is absolute garbage and I am stuck with it.

Hello, we've thoroughly communicated that you can't roll back to an older version after updating to 6.1.1. Technical reasons dictate this policy. We're sorry to hear if you missed this and upgraded without reading the release notes. If you are stuck in a way that your printer got stuck during the installation process, please send us a ticket via this link and make sure to include which printer you have. We should be able to help you out fairly quickly!

I need assistance too..I contacted my distributer here in the UK and they are asking me to pay to send my printer to them to flash via post for a problem caused by early release of Ultimaker firmware. I do not understand why i should burden the cost as it is not my fault (i did not cause this crash) so i hope there is a solution your link can provide me without having to send my printer? I need it operational for obvious reasons

Hi Navin, thank you for your message. I've been in touch with our product experts and as I understand it you may have been in touch with our reseller previously to discuss some other issues or concerns regarding your Ultimaker S5. If you only want to have your firmware recovered, they should be able to help you remotely and you should be able to receive those instructions. If you want them to look at your machine for other issues you may be facing, you'll have to ship it and since your machine is not covered by warranty there will be shipping costs. So it is kind of up to you what you want them to do. Hope this helps!

i put in a ticket, i hope you all have a fast way to let us all know, my printer runs non stop and now i am down..

That is good to hear, thank you for following that route. If I understand it correctly, your issues have been resolved and your printer is now successfully updated to 6.1

Again our apologies for the inconvenience and we're happy we've been able to help you on such a short notice. Have a great day!

  13. Hi, I want to recommend everyone who had an issue with updating the firmware to create a ticket via this link. Our support engineers are ready for you with instructions on how to recover your Ultimaker. Please make sure to specify in your ticket what printer you have; Ultimaker S3, Ultimaker S5 R1 (has a robot on the side), or Ultimaker S5 R2 (has a U on the side), with or without a material station/air manager or an Ultimaker S5 Pro Bundle.

We'll get back with you as soon as possible. If you have any questions about this, feel free to send me a DM. Hope you all have a great day, thank you for your time.

With firmware 6.1.1 we’re bringing static IP, an upgraded OS and more features to all S-line printers. Let’s dive right into it!

    Network and security improvements.

    Upgraded operating system
Since the release of firmware 6.0, Ultimaker S-line 3D printers have been upgraded from the Linux Debian Jessie distribution to Linux Debian Buster distribution. This new OS comes with some security improvements and we believe it elevates our existing firmware to be more future-proof and allowing for a more secure 3D print environment.

Important: Due to the upgrade in OS, it is important to note that from firmware 6.0 onward, it is not possible to downgrade back to 5.8 or an earlier firmware version.

    Firewall
A network firewall increases your 3D printer’s security by allowing only cloud traffic from the Ultimaker Digital Factory, and blocking uncontrolled access via the local network. When activated, your printer will only be able to accessed via Ultimaker Digital Factory and USB, and no longer via IP addresses in a browser. This also means that your 3D printer will not sync with new material profiles you’ve added via Ultimaker Cura. If you are an Ultimaker Essentials customer, the admin will be able to control firewall functionality. Otherwise, you will be able to toggle it on/off via the printer interface.

    1-firewall.gif?f=center&fm=webp&w=1080

USB network setup (plus static IP addresses!)
Network settings (Wi-Fi and Ethernet) can now be set up via a USB stick by using an ultimaker_network.config file. This means among others, you will be able to configure static IP addresses and Wi-Fi credentials. A highly demanded feature, and we’re really happy that we can finally offer this to you. More information can be found here.

    1-setupnetworkviausb_loop.gif?f=center&f

    Improved UI for (non-NFC) materials
We’re also really excited about the updates we’re making to the ‘Choose Material Type’ menus on your Ultimaker. Previously, you could only choose from material types. With firmware 6.1.1 you will be able to choose materials by brand, type and color; just like in Ultimaker Cura. This applies to Ultimaker materials, Marketplace materials and other third-party materials you may have created in Ultimaker Cura.

    1-materialselection.gif?f=center&fm=webp

    Coming up!

    ‘Latest’ and ‘Stable’ release channels.
While firmware 6.1.1 is laying the groundwork, with the next firmware (6.2) we are introducing two firmware release channels; Latest and Stable. These channels allow you to choose how often you want to update your 3D printer’s firmware. So how does this work?

    • Latest: If you opt in to latest you will receive a notification as soon as new firmware becomes available, ensuring that you always benefit from the latest features. New firmware will be released approximately two times per quarter.
    • Stable: If you prefer stability and continuity over the latest possible features, the ‘Stable’ channel might be for you. Stable firmware versions will only contain features which have been thoroughly used and tested by a wide audience. Stable firmware will be released approximately four times per year.

When firmware 6.2 is released, you will be able to change your preference to ‘Latest’ or ‘Stable’.

All in all, a lot of improvements in firmware 6.1! We hope you are as excited about them as we are. Let us know what you think in the comments!

  15. Hi,

it could be that your front fan may not be spinning (sufficiently) anymore. Could be a few strings of filament got stuck in between the blades. Alternatively, or perhaps simultaneously, it's also possible that the tip of your bowden tube is skewed (did you ever cut it?) or not inserted fully and there is a small gap between the bowden tube and the coupler where your filament can expand.

  16. Thanks for the feedback. I don't know why you would see it as ominous though, it is quite simple. We ask you to fill out the form so we can know our users better, in return you can win an Ultimaker S3. So if you don't fill it out, you don't really meet the criteria and therefor shouldn't be considered as a candidate among those who did.

  17. Hello! I do 🙂

Obviously we would like to ask you to fill out the form as accurately as possible, so we can understand better who our customers are. But if a field does not apply to you but it is marked as mandatory, like when you are a student for example, you can fill out 'student'. Or 'unknown'. It does not mean you can not enter, you certainly may. 🙂

    Good luck!
