Well the other annoyance is the upgraded Z-Cap rubs against the back of the printer. I really don't want to take the thing all apart and sand the back of it. Every time the z goes down a bit, you get that wood-on-wood squeak...and it's not killing the prints...but just adds the chattering charm of the UMO

I completely agree. The biggest frustration with the printers is the assumption of knowledge. Add to that a forum that is a nightmare to search and....well....let's all pause and let our anxiety drop a bit.

Well how many of you have Ultimaker Originals with a heated bed? I mean the Ultimaker 2 is manufactured for you...so there's a difference there. (Not to knock my kit assembly...!) Ok, I looked at the link and see the gcode. I just need to use a text editor to change the temperature to something a lot lower (like 210). My ColorFabb isn't rated to go that high and do nice things!

Noob question follows....how do I use that? Copy/paste to the SD card?

That's excellent! My UMO is very noisy too!

It's a different creature, for sure. I thought I could level it once and be good for a few weeks! Still learning!

I've had my UMO going since August 2013 and only replaced the nozzle last fall (jammed it up good). I had bought the dual extruder upgrade so I had spare parts available! I'm curious about picture where you printer looks encased in something...?

I honestly don't know why this thread exists when it comes across as an endorsement of a Chinese rip off. Lock it/close it/ delete it would be my opinion

I haven't found their forum very useful yet. I inquired about a profile for the heated bed upgrade and effectively got told to make my own. Well, sure...how! I guess I was being lazy, hoping such a profile already existed and some suggestions on how to do it. I can't say my experience with S3D has been very good so far. I've grown to like the current Cura release

Hi @valcrow, thanks for chiming in I'm finding I have to level for each print, which probably isn't a bad idea. I guess from my many months of watching Ultimaker 2 videos of first prints and such, I expected much the same. I certainly don't recall seeing any videos where people are hurriedly adjusting those screws while the skirt is printing. Maybe it's just this way with the UMO? I mean, I do view the U2 as a better printer than mine...since it was professionally assembled and all Like everything in 3D printing, it's an ongoing education.

I found one of Robert's contributions on Thingiverse....a PCB Vise. I have been doing a lot of soldering of Arduino UNO shields lately and this looks very handy! The first piece came out great using basic settings... ColorFabb PLA/PHA at 200, 40 mm/sec, 0.2 layers and bed at 60C But the "claws" sort of turned into a mess. I wonder if the bed temp killed the overhangs? Or some support should've been added?

You make a lot of good points, there should be some better education on bed leveling, calibration and how to best use the heated bed. I melted my first Ultirobot test print...poor overhangs!

It's tough to gather tone/mood/meaning from text. I understand your frustrations. These machines are expensive and it can be maddening how it is smooth sailing from the day it is unboxed for some...and a struggle for each and every print for others. (Me! But I have a UMO, so very experimental)

Well I thought my first calibration and good print....a small box (1 inch square) in the middle of the plate, would suffice. But when I moved on to a print that was 6" wide, i had to re-level since I was running into the same issue, no filament extruding/bed too close, again. Experiment, experiment, experiment. Boy, all this information, from installing the upgrade to getting good prints will make quite a video

I'm glad to see you are on the path to successful printing. You come off rather unappreciative of the steps gr5 offered you, though.

I wonder......How much leveling/bed calibration do UM2 users go through? Each print? Every few days? I know the UMO is for the Experimenter....and yes, it is certainly living up to that role! It seems prior to each print is requiring some tweaking. Not horrible, now that I'm using the extra skirt/adjust method gr5 details.

And...just printed a larger piece and had to do more adjustments for that. Looks like skirt and tuning is a good regular habit to get into I need to make the skirts spread out a tad...hard to see them after that 4th pass

Tonight I had a chance to use your ideas....I downloaded a test print, added about 6 levels of skirt and did the 'crazy finger dance' to manually raise/lower the bed to get the smooshed plastic result. Of course, I had to write myself a note... As usual black filament photographs poorly (and I hate how the top of this print looks!) BUT...note the skirt is properly squished in there (sorry, no idea why sideways)

That's a really good point...but I am not a carpenter =)
