  1. The 'shadows' are created by sudden changes in direction. The head is still 'setteling' back, but its already being forced in another direction. This creates a fairly distinctive wobble. Decreasing the acceleration and jerk (acceleration of the acceleration) should fix this.
  2. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'the designers'. There have been a *ton* of people involved with it's development. The most 'influential' design choices (eg; shape, material) have been done by one of the founders, Martijn Elserman. The name of the group would obviously be 'Ultimaker'
  3. I can name quite a few people that I've printed models from. But any 'evidence' that I can provide is anecdotal at best. There is a big problem with low res models, but making models cost money won't change this. Just take a look at paid sites for models (such as turbosquid or a different market such as appstores) and look at the crap people dare to ask money for. This problem (eg; the inability to actually rate models on collection sites) is quite different from the 'should models be free' discussion. Personally, I see the sharing of models / knowledge on such basis as an investment. If there is more information / models on 3D printing, it's more likely that someone will find what they need. This increases the value of the 3D printer for that person and is thus more likely to continue use it. From that point, it's not that far of a leap to imagine that if someone got models for free, he / she is more likely to share their work for free as well. There will obviously be quite a few 'freeloaders' in the system. Contrary to with such systems with a finite amount of resources to copy items, this is not a problem. The copy itself is 'free'. The freeloaders in itself have a function in the ecosystem; providing exposure for the people who create these items. Also; Copying an item x times will not work. It will be cracked, and I will be grumpy because people force me to use DRM software.
  4. If you change your machine to UM2 in cura, no start or end gcode is displayed. If you intend to print on a um2, do use this; else the clips of the platform are not taken into account, which could wreck your nozzle.
  5. So why does the image of a huge UM robot sitting on a leather chair, asking how 'my day went ' and if 'I want to talk about it' suddenly pops up? Mweh, probably won't have anything to do with this topic...
  6. We are in total awe of this mod. Please keep us updated!
  7. I've moved the printhead around a lot, on multiple machines. Never fried the driver boards though. Also; I understand you are frustrated, but your tone isn't going to help you get the help you need. Nor will it convince anyone at ultimaker any faster to make changes. Politeness goes a long way...
  8. FYI; None of the cura devs speak french, so we will not be able to follow these topics.
  9. It's not just the UM2, its with (as far as I can tell) all printers.
  10. Putting your prints on SD is better, especially for high res prints. Due to bandwith constraints in USB 2.0, it sometimes happens that the G-Codes can't be sent to the printer fast enough. This slows the prints down and creates noticable mistakes.
  11. Could you create an issue on github? It helps us keeping track of bugs.
  12. If you want to report a bug, please do so at https://github.com/daid/Cura/issues
  13. A lot of people seem to think that ideas on how to fix the support structure are the bottle neck. This is not the case, far from it actually. In a broad sense, ideas are very, very cheap. The main concern is not how to implement a better support structure, nor convincing anyone that it's a good idea to implement a beter version (Because really, it is a good idea). The biggest problem is mainly time. We have limited quantities of it and implementing a good support algorithm takes quite a bit of time. *edit* I just re-read this post and might seem negative; It's most certainly not ment to put a damper on your ideas! Please, do keep them flowing. Just be aware of the constraints that we face as active developers.
  14. The sense *is* a kinect for all intents and purposes. They use the same technology (they even use the same chip, by the same manufactorer). The only difference is the greatly increased cost and the fact that they've added a handle to it. There are countless printable handles to be found, so I don't see any reason for the huge price increase. If you do want to scan a bit more up close, you could also look into 'reading glasses'. These are a sort of lens mounts that can be attached to kinect / xtion to increase the accuracy & resolution of closeby scanning.
  15. Protip; Calling names, making multiple forum topics and profound use of sarcasm will not help to encourage either me or Daid to spend more time on the usb window
  16. Create a buildscript by yourself. We're to swamped in work to create a buildscript for the rasp-pi. If you do create such a script, we would be more than happy to add it to Cura.
  17. It wasn't the height that made it not work.
  18. That sensor is little more then a kinect sensor in a smaller package. Don't expect great quality from it.
  19. David + beamer + camera package costs you about 2k. I've not worked with their software, but most of their results speak for themselves. There is a bit of tweaking required to get nice quality models, but from the looks of it, these shouldn't be harder then the tweaking needed for ultimakers. Also; there are lens sets for asus xtion; which decrease the viewing angle (They function as a sort of reading glasses). This results in better quality scans, but it will take more tweaking & experimentation to get 'right'
  20. I didn't get my pineapple this month. You're not allowed to call me minion
  21. I've made these policies together with Daid, due to the large number (eg; 200+) issues on the github. Most of these issues were vague, already fixed or will be resolved by the new GUI. I don't quite see what there is to be concerned about. Instead of random answers to issues, there are clearer rules on what we would like to see in issues and when / how they will be closed. The community is free to implement or recomend new features, but simply put; "Ideas are cheap". I'm not working fulltime on Cura and neither is Daid. So we have to select which suggestions to implement.
  22. I wouldn't exactly know when they changed it. I do know that they are still experimenting with different additives and compositions. But there has been very little innovation in the area of PLA for printers. UM has only recently started research in that area, mostly due to the difficulties in actually finding people with the right knowhow (as it turns out, chemists are rare ).
  23. Colorfab PLA has some additives, it's temperature profile is quite different. The stuff they sold at the beginning needed lower temperatures as it was rather stringy.
  24. The sense scanner is just a kinect / asus xtion with a sexy package. In my opinion it's totally not worth the premium price they are asking for it. Do you plan to scale the objects? That tends to decrease the need for high accuracy somewhat. I've seen pretty decent prints of scanned people, even though the full model didn't look that impressive.
  25. PVC glue kinda works, but it's more usefull as a coating.
